dMatik Posted January 12, 2022 Share Posted January 12, 2022 Hello people, after trying to update Monterey from 12.0.1 to 12.1 or 12.2b1, com.apple.driver.AirPort.BrcmNIC triggers kernel pannic early boot. From trials and trials, i think it has something to do with ASPM (on 12.0.1 i can replicate this by using boot arg "brcmfx-aspm=259 (pci-aspm-default 103). Have tried with and without AirportBrcmFixup, with and without ASPM disabled in bios, same time same kernel pannic. If I disable the wifi card in bios, I can boot the installer/update flawlesly. As you will see bellow in my EFI, this is what I use on 12.0.1 and it works without any problem since i've updated to 12.0.1. My wifi card built inside my ASUS X99 Deluxe is is Broadcom BCM94360HMB Azurewave AW-CB160H 1300Mbps 802.11ac WIFI Card + BT 4.0. Will post bellow KP and my EFI/ioreg, thank you all your your time and if u have things for me to try I will do it happily. panic(cpu 5 caller 0xffffff8019fd5c53): Kernel trap at 0xffffff8019d01082, type 14=page fault, registers: CR0: 0x000000008001003b, CR2: 0xffffff8ba45b1000, CR3: 0x0000000020232000, CR4: 0x00000000001626e0 RAX: 0xffffffffff232d00, RBX: 0xffffff8ba37e3800, RCX: 0x0000000000000300, RDX: 0x0000000000000800 RSP: 0xffffffd0d9a73848, RBP: 0xffffffd0d9a73860, RSI: 0xffffff8ba45b1000, RDI: 0xffffff8ba37e3d00 R8: 0x0000000000000004, R9: 0x0000000000000008, R10: 0x00000000ffffffff, R11: 0x00000000e0000000 R12: 0xffffff8ba37e3800, R13: 0x0000000000000800, R14: 0xffffff8ba45b0b00, R15: 0x0000000000000000 RFL: 0x0000000000010286, RIP: 0xffffff8019d01082, CS: 0x0000000000000008, SS: 0x0000000000000000 Fault CR2: 0xffffff8ba45b1000, Error code: 0x0000000000000000, Fault CPU: 0x5, PL: 0, VF: 10 Panicked task 0xffffff9a0a3d9670: 126 threads: pid 0: kernel_task Backtrace (CPU 5), panicked thread: 0xffffff8ba352f540, Frame : Return Address 0xffffffd0d9a73270 : 0xffffff8019e860fd 0xffffffd0d9a732c0 : 0xffffff8019fe6095 0xffffffd0d9a73300 : 0xffffff8019fd5863 0xffffffd0d9a73350 : 0xffffff8019e25a60 0xffffffd0d9a73370 : 0xffffff8019e864cd 0xffffffd0d9a73490 : 0xffffff8019e85c86 0xffffffd0d9a734f0 : 0xffffff801a716259 0xffffffd0d9a73560 : 0xffffff8019fd5c53 0xffffffd0d9a736e0 : 0xffffff8019fd5938 0xffffffd0d9a73730 : 0xffffff8019e25a60 0xffffffd0d9a73750 : 0xffffff8019d01082 0xffffffd0d9a73860 : 0xffffff801c05e11e 0xffffffd0d9a738b0 : 0xffffff801c05d0f9 0xffffffd0d9a739a0 : 0xffffff801c03e1d3 0xffffffd0d9a73a30 : 0xffffff801c03d78c 0xffffffd0d9a73a90 : 0xffffff801be6828c 0xffffffd0d9a73b50 : 0xffffff801bd7c3b2 0xffffffd0d9a73c20 : 0xffffff801bd7a938 0xffffffd0d9a73c90 : 0xffffff801bd7a4e1 0xffffffd0d9a73cc0 : 0xffffff801a659ef0 0xffffffd0d9a73d20 : 0xffffff801bd7b620 0xffffffd0d9a73d90 : 0xffffff801ddeff56 0xffffffd0d9a73dd0 : 0xffffff801a62e9fa 0xffffffd0d9a73e30 : 0xffffff801a62e565 0xffffffd0d9a73ef0 : 0xffffff801a62d560 0xffffffd0d9a73f50 : 0xffffff801a6305c9 0xffffffd0d9a73fa0 : 0xffffff8019e2518e Kernel Extensions in backtrace: as.lvs1974.AirportBrcmFixup(2.1.3)[8EFA9A2F-49A9-3801-937B-4448C25CDAE2]@0xffffff801dded000->0xffffff801ddf9fff dependency: as.vit9696.Lilu(1.5.8)[3E44E561-C07C-31E8-B2D7-0F31B5266E45]@0xffffff801dda5000->0xffffff801ddcffff dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.9)[F0A7BE4E-A81A-34BE-B032-EF7E61FB3C46]@0xffffff801c9e7000->0xffffff801ca11fff com.apple.driver.AirPort.BrcmNIC(1400.1.1)[5836AF20-6464-3BF9-BD50-3312E2C73D90]@0xffffff801bd4f000->0xffffff801c2a9fff dependency: com.apple.driver.corecapture(1.0.4)[1A8E7B0A-B456-30AD-BD9F-7032D1A6E9DF]@0xffffff801d223000->0xffffff801d23cfff dependency: com.apple.driver.mDNSOffloadUserClient(1.0.1b8)[C294EE9A-A5C7-39F7-8756-A8E66AED42CE]@0xffffff801c9e0000->0xffffff801c9e4fff dependency: com.apple.iokit.IO80211FamilyLegacy(1200.12.2b1)[9E78AAB8-75A1-3070-87E4-C0A1B34ABEF4]@0xffffff801bbee000->0xffffff801bd34fff dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily(3.4)[8F50013F-1DAF-3503-8E71-6266FD3B3AD9]@0xffffff801c74d000->0xffffff801c763fff dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.9)[F0A7BE4E-A81A-34BE-B032-EF7E61FB3C46]@0xffffff801c9e7000->0xffffff801ca11fff dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOSkywalkFamily(1.0)[D504070B-CF5A-36C4-8D49-7E9874EA6FA0]@0xffffff801cac6000->0xffffff801cb0dfff Process name corresponding to current thread (0xffffff8ba352f540): kernel_task Boot args: npci=0x3000 alcid=7 -hbfx-disable-patch-pci root-dmg=file:///BaseSystem/BaseSystem.dmg chunklist-security-epoch=0 -chunklist-no-rev2-dev Mac OS version: Not yet set Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 21.3.0: Wed Dec 8 00:40:29 PST 2021; root:xnu-8019.80.11.111.1~1/RELEASE_X86_64 Kernel UUID: BF33B3E6-D84E-3D04-845D-DBC6A1CF4E3D KernelCache slide: 0x0000000019c00000 KernelCache base: 0xffffff8019e00000 Kernel slide: 0x0000000019c10000 Kernel text base: 0xffffff8019e10000 __HIB text base: 0xffffff8019d00000 System model name: iMacPro1,1 (Mac-7BA5B2D9E42DDD94) System shutdown begun: NO Panic diags file unavailable, panic occurred prior to initialization Hibernation exit count: 0 System uptime in nanoseconds: 3674488979 Last Sleep: absolute base_tsc base_nano Uptime : 0x00000000db04457f Sleep : 0x0000000000000000 0x0000000000000000 0x0000000000000000 Wake : 0x0000000000000000 0x0000038a0d94f67c 0x0000000000000000 Zone info: Foreign : 0xffffff8021567000 - 0xffffff8021574000 Native : 0xffffff8070af3000 - 0xffffffa070af3000 Readonly : 0xffffff853d7bf000 - 0xffffff86d7153000 Metadata : 0xfffffffa8f673000 - 0xfffffffaafb69000 Bitmaps : 0xfffffffaafb69000 - 0xfffffffac1b69000 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lOzLKhQZHTzeoo-msAXev4WFiLltL4Bn/view?usp=sharing Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/350364-airportbrcmfixupbcm94360hmb-maybe-broken-in-monterey-121-and-122/ Share on other sites More sharing options...

dMatik Posted January 12, 2022 Author Share Posted January 12, 2022 4 hours ago, MaLd0n said: this card have native support. remove plugin inside AirportBrcmFixup kext Tried before and tried agin, same behaviour. Also @Hervé ideea. Even tried without nothing (no aspm device properties no airportbrcmfixup (what i saw is that with airportbrcmfixup the kp happens a bit later (2,3 seconds later). Still the same, 12.0.1 works every time (card having the same device id as Apple kext it works), was using airportbrcmfixup the country-code (5ghz). 12.1 update or 12.2 installer, same kp. Tried even only with lilu/virtualsmc and usb map, tried without usbmap only lilu virtual smc and usbinjectall. 12.0.1 works, 12.1,12.2b1 kp. The same. On 12.0.1 I can even enable ASPM in bios and then use brcmfx-aspm=257 and I get aspm working so idk. Maybe the wizards at AirportBrcmFixup will find what changed since 12.0.1 and patch those things, without them, only 12.0.1 for us... dMatik Posted January 20, 2022 Author Share Posted January 20, 2022 5 hours ago, Hervé said: You don't really use a conventional OpenCore setup to say the least. AzureWave AW-CB160H being based on Broadcom BCM4360 wireless chipset (pci14e4,43a0) and BCM20702 Bluetooth chip, it should not require any add-on kexts. ASPM usually is something that may affect laptops rather than desktops and your wireless card clearly is fitted to a PCIe adapter in a desktop. It does not require, i use airportbrcmfixup just for 5ghz patch and vendor id patch (to show airport extremem instead of third party device). I use this pc since 10.11 and untill 12.1 wifi worked flawless. Even 12.0.1 i can boot without any kext and still wifi works. I am not home now but here is my inreg from last post, tomorrow I will post ioreg from working 12.0.1, the pci adress i get from gfxutil since i’ve named my wifi device in dsdt ARPT. I will inject in device properties pci-ASPM-defaut 0, post ioreg from 12.0.1 tomorrow. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TctG_fptNGsV8fnDzneVcgO48UnZqGWF/view?usp=sharing 4 hours ago, 1Revenger1 said: If you are uploading panics, please use the "keepsyms=1" boot-arg to provide more details in the panic stacktrace. UPDATE: after more tries today i'm able to boot 12.1 (9 from ten times) so bellow is what i've discovered: Can Boot: ASPM enabled in bios and brcmfx-aspm=258 bootarg (9 from 10 boots) ASPM disabled in bios and brcmfx-aspm=255 bootarg (like 5 from 10 boots) pci-aspm-default 0 number - device properties (5 from 10 boots, with or without airportbrcmfixup) DebugEnhancer and -v boot argument (mandatory) Can't Boot: DebugEnhancer and -v boot argument So i don't know what debug enhancer does but it seems to improve things, still can't boot 12.1 or 12.2b2 installer but can install with wifi off then enabe wifi in bios. I might not know that i'm saying but i think there is a memoryleak somewhere from apple side or I don't know. If someone can tell me what debug enhancer does to make things work in this situation, we might be going on from there. Edit: When I try to add more kext's than in the "final" efi, 9 from 10 times the sistem hangs at boot (no kp just hangs), or not all the kext's get injected "sometimes no audio (AppleALC), sometimes no bluetooth (Bluetoolfixup), sometimes no ethernet (IntelMausi). Might be caused by debug enhancer, migh be from apple side, idk. What you see in "final" efi till now is stable on 12.1.
