Rammjet
I successfully use the Restore function in Disk Utility all the time. Boot into OSX. Use Disk Utility to erase the destination partition as MacOS Extended Journaled. Click on the Restore tab. Drag the icon of your OSX partition to source and the new partition to destination. linux4guru
Ever consider Acronis Disk Image? I have tried and successfully restore a 10.4.1 version to another laptop. LaminarFlow
Carbon Copy Cloner also works well. In the options you can choose to create a disk image on the target drive to save for later use too.
