bigben1
hi!!! when I try to clean install Monterey os on a system Ga z490x ud ac, comet lake cpu it throws an error " firmware update couldn't be installed" But when I install Monterey on another rig mobo Ga z170x ud , Skylake cpu no errors and installs fine in 30mins or so. so as a way around I installed Monterey on Skylake rig and physically moved to ssd to comet lake rig , it works fine. both installs I used open core method. it seems there are no Macs with comet lake cpus hence the firmware problem????? anyone has any ideas ???? rig1; ga z490x ud ac, comet lake i7 cpu , radeon rx580, 32GB ram , 3 ssds rig2; Ga z170x ud 5h , skylake i7 cpu, vega64, 16GB ram, 4 ssds how to stop checking firmware when install in progress.☺️ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/349449-monterey-mackintosh-clean-install/ Share on other sites
george293
Hi bigben, I have a similar Skylake rig to yours but I have been unable to boot Monterey. Any chance you could upload your EFI? Thank you Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/349449-monterey-mackintosh-clean-install/#findComment-2771948 Share on other sites

george293
Hi bigben, thank you very much for your prompt assistance. Although I am still unble to boot with your EFI, this time the boot process seems to have gone a bit further. At the spot I normally get an empty screen, your EFI showed, for a fraction of a second, a recovery boot screen, before the screen went blank again. I am hopeful that through a slow process of elimination, using your EFI as a base, I finally might succeed in booting. Needless to say if you have any clue as to what might cause the recovery screen to flash I will be very happy to hear from you. In any case thank you again for being so helpful so quickly. george293
Thanks bigben, I am doing a clean install of Monterey on a USB stick (64GB), not an SSD. I do have a SATA SSD with a running Catalina but I want to be able to boot from the USB stick first, then I'll clone it to the SSD. I don't have a vega64 gpu, I only have the Intel integrated graphics on my skylake CPU. The display is connected via HDMI. My full specs are: Motherboard: Gigabyte H170-HD3, Socket H4 (LGA1151), 16GB DDR4 memoryCPU: Skylake Core i5-6600 with integrated Intel GPU, HDMI display2x SATA SSDs, one with Windows 10 and Ubuntu (16), the other with macOS Catalina with Clover boot loader, also an HDD for data.Keyboard: PS2 keyboard.Wireless mouse. Network: RealTek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC I can boot the open core bootloader using your EFI, and the menu with the choice of OS to boot is displayed. I choose the USB stick with Monterey and then everything happens very fast, lots of lines are displayed on the screen until the Recovery screen is shown for an instant and then the blank screen appears and that's it.
