Hi,

I was at the local compusa this evening (hey, it's next door to the target my wife was going to)... and saw a toshiba satellite P105-S6104...

This page on their website has some info...

Anyone have thoughts on if this would be a reasonable laptop to try and run an OSx86 system.

I'm presuming I would need to futz with the wireless, but is there anything else that spells big trouble here?

There is also a P105-S6114, which has more ram, and a bigger hard drive down at my local fry's for only a few bucks more...

I found the specs on the Toshiba website and would go with this one if it's going to be a better experience.

thanks!

I admit it, I'm all about that big screen, I think I would put the triger on a macbook if it had something other than that 13" inch screen. I can't make the leap cash wise to the 17" MBP or I would just do it and be done with it, but you know 3K is twice what I can afford and I'm NOT going (further) into debt to get a new laptop.

The network card is definitely an Intel, I looked in system info, but I can't remember the exact details.

I know the 3945ABG wireless is a no go, I presume I can either pick up a USB wireless card, or can I replace the internal one simply? That would be ideal if not too expensive.

Thanks for your feedback, I'm hoping to get decent solution.

By the way, I lived in Rochester for a few years, working for Xerox, just left there in 03.

Rochester Rules -_-

The E1405 is 14" and 1440x900 and a little lighter and has tremendous battery life, plus you'll save $350 to get your wife something from Target :D Everything works except sound, soon to be fixed *crossing fingers*

To tell you the truth Toshiba's have lots of RMAs, my mother works for a factory repair/warranty center and tells me how bad they suck. Good Luck

Any other opinions on these two possible choices?

As far as wireless goes, is it a trivial matter to get a supported USB wireless adapter? I see the belkin F5D7050 has been used in the past, are there other USB solutions I should look into? A particular replacement internal card I should consider?

thanks.
