tommytom02 Posted November 30, 2006 Share Posted November 30, 2006 I've installed 10.4.8 (JaS) on my 775Dual VSTA. I've gotten everything to work except for the video card, a 9800xt. I have tried the 9700.kext mod and installing AGPGart 2.1 but no luck. Have not tried callisto yet, I don't know that I'm experienced enough yet to do that one. I just wanted to see if anyone had success making this card at least usable and if so, how? tommytom02 Posted March 12, 2007 Author Share Posted March 12, 2007 i'm guessing by the large nuber of replies here that nobody has had any luck. i managed to get some functionality with katana 0.2c. i can change the resolution to my native res and color isn't bad. no QI/CE yet so gradients are a bit funny looking. i've given up though, buying an x1950xt, there is good support for it in another thread here. hecker Posted March 13, 2007 Share Posted March 13, 2007 (edited) I had an ATI 9800 Pro. This is how I got my card working: -Installed Callistob008 (Detailed instructions are in the file. Follow them by the line!): basically just copy the Callisto files into the Extensions folder and modify ATIRadeon9700GA.kext/Contents.Info.plist. -Set CallistoFB (instructions are in the FAQ section of the Callisto file) (At this point, if you rebooted, you should be able to change the resolution and have QE/CI. -Installed AGPGart2.2 (no changes were made to the files). The files just need to be copied into the Extensions folder. -Fixed file permissions by typing (in the terminal console): sudo chown -R root /System/Library/Extensions/Callisto* AGPGart* sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/Callisto* AGPGart* -Erased kext cache by typing: sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext reboot That should do the trick for you too. Post here if you have any trouble understanding the instrucions. Also consider making a backup of your system before trying this out. I recommend SuperDuper (free). tommytom02 Posted March 14, 2007 Author Share Posted March 14, 2007 (edited) I am not sure why you still have APG to use with 775 CPU, but 9800 series should at least give you CI/QE with mouse tearing. because I didn't have the money to upgrade, thats the whole point of the ASRock 775Dual-VSTA, an inexpensive upgrade to 775 CPU, then you can slowly upgrade around it as you get the money. 9800 pro has no problems, but the XT hasnt worked for anyone in the community i've talked to. They are very different cards. the XT will work in 10.4.5 (or 6?) but not my mobo.
