mitch41
So I was super glad after a superb install of OS X, until I tried booting back into windows. So I booted back into OS X, very very happy that I had backed up all my documents... And I looked at my Partition for Windows... which seemed to look alright. But then, something made me feel like checking out whether the Windows, Docs + Settings, and Program File folders were there... They were, but they were EMPTY! So, I was super puzzled when I noticed that there was the same amount of hard drive space being used... So I sorted all my files by size, and the largest folder was "Bootwiz" (I think it may have been all capitals, I forget and don't want to run check), then I kept it sorted by Largest size and the largest folder inside Bootwiz was "B555e344", and inside that... TADA! Windows Folder... Program Files Folder... Documents + Settings Folder... and also: ntdetect.com, ntldr, bootdetect.sys, and boot.ini So... I am wondering whether anyone know's a way for me to save this... Could I just use something like ERD Commander 2005 (ERD Commander (Winternals.com) and copy and paste the files over? Or... what is your guys' opinion... Thank you muchly! Mitch Cook
Rammjet
BOOTWIZ is Acronis. It moves the files inside it's own folders so that it can boot first before Windows does. First try to get Acronis working. If you can access Acronis but it won't boot Windows when you click the Windows icon, try this: - In Acronis, right-click on the Windows icon and select Properties. - Find the Partition section and on the right, click the partition which holds Windows and then select the Active check box. - Save and then try it out. If that doesn't work, then try to get an Acronis boot CD and use it to repair Acronis. If that doesn't work, from OSX, you can try to drag the Windows, Docs + Settings, and Program File folders out of the BOOTWIZ directory and back to the C:\ directory. BUT - if your Windows partition is formatted NTFS, OSX cannot write the files to copy/move them. In that case, maybe a bootable utility CD (like Hiren's) will let you copy the directory/files back to C:\ and then disable the BOOTWIZ.
mitch41
Alrighty... So I tried the first part, and the right partition was already active... But still, when I try to boot into Windows (XP of course), it gives me the never-ending blinking cursor. I would rather not copy all the files over to the normal directory, because then I wouldn't be able to use Acronis would I? Thank you for your help so far, Hiren's looks even better than my mixture of Gparted and ERD Commander 2005. Mitch
joe75
I try to boot into Windows (XP of course), it gives me the never-ending blinking cursor. Blinking cursor usually means you have to fix mbr of Windows. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...r.mspx?mfr=true
mitch41
I would fixmbr it, but wouldn't that get rid of Acronis?
joe75
mitch41, I have never used Acronis, I have had 7 OS's on one PC and never needed it. If thats the way you're gonna go, you should wait for better help
mitch41
the problem is that acronis moves all the important os files to a different directory. so even if i used it i would have to move all the files. sorry about the bad punctuation and caps i am typing this on my phone
TomA2
I have a similar problem. After installing MacOSX, Windows no longer booted. Is there a good way to get rid of Acronis and still have a dual boot system? I would prefer not to have to reinstall anything, but I would be willing to reinstall Windows if I HAD to. I would NOT be willing to reinstall OSX, though. Also, if I delete the windows partition (which contains Acronis) would the Mac partition still boot? Klownicle
This happened to me, but osx took over as the active partion. I just created a resuce media disk for acronis. In regards to dual boot. I used Acronis, but I didn't like the gui and slow loading and (esc for menu) didn't even work. SO Im using the Chain0 method and loving it. Rammjet
In OSX, add the Timeout parameter to your boot.plist to make the OSX/Darwin bootloader appear. Use the OSX bootloader. Also, use it to boot into Windows and run Acronis Disk Suite and remove the Acronis OS Selector. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=243116
