A perfect Catalina is possible on X58 motherboard?

Hello everyone,

I'm not new to Hackintosh. My first was 10 years ago, a Fujitsu laptop, and after the computer I have today and that I've been updating yet. The problem is that I've never been an expert and today there is less and less info about old boards in new systems. That is why I ask you for advice to continue keeping my pc for a few years.

My specs:

  • CPU: Intel Xeon X5675
  • Plate: Gigabyte EX58-UD3R v1.6
  • Ram: 16GB
  • Graphics: Sapphire Nitro + Radeon RX 590 8GB
  • SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 500GB
  • Wifi: Usb TP-LINK TL-WN823 v2
  • Bluetooth: Usb Iogear GBU521W6

I installed Catalina and is stable. The basics work but I would like to improve it by solving the following faults (in order of priority):

  1. My SSD is not indexed and I can't change it. Spotlight and Time Machine don't work. It may be related, but the SSD has a Folder icon instead of a SSD icon. I've searched but can't find a solution.
  2. The graphics card only have the Displayports working. I know there are threads that say how to solve it but in my case none has worked.
  3. Sleep not working. It does not turn on if I press the keyboard or mouse and if I use the power button the screen keep black. Again, I have read threads about this but I didn't find the solution.
  4. Continuity/Handoff not working. I don't know where to start, I don't even know if my usb wifi and usb bluetooth is compatible for this. I need it because I think it's important for the next point.
  5. Sidecar. I have an iPad Pro and I need this working. I tried on wifi + bluetooth and nothing, not find the device. A better option would be a Usb-C cable but my motherboard doesn't have it. One thing, I read it's important H264 and HEVC decoding ok. I tested and both are ok.

I add the folders I have in the EFI partition, the config.plist and the list of kexts I use.

Thank you very much, any advice I would greatly appreciate it!

hey friend.

I have the same motherboard as you, please help me.

  My specs:
     CPU: i7 920
     Plate: Gigabyte EX58-UD3R v1.6
     Ram: 8GB
     Graphics: nVidia GTX 570
     SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB
Wifi: TP-Link PCI Express Wifi Adapter 802.11N (N900)
     Bluetooth: GMYLE Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter

Osx 10.10 works perfectly and I've been using it for several years. But Catalina 10.15.4. it could never work. I start the installation from USB memory, the Cameleon works fine, the osX installation starts and when the installation is complete the gray screen appears and the computer is reset. After that I have to repeat everything but the same problem arises ....

Please write me how you managed to install osX Catalina step by step. What drivers and settings did you use in Cameleon.

Please, help me...

The issue may be your video card.  Catalina "requires" an AMD card.  I have read about the kext called Whatevergreen that is supposed to do magic for video support, I do not know if it is able to make your GTX 570 work with Catalina though.

I am struggling to get this to work for me as well.  I have bought an AMD card to (a RX580) to replace my nVidia card.  I can't get the installer to work as part way through the boot my screen goes black.  When I searched the web on that it seems to be a common problem but Whatevergreen is supposed to be the savior.  I am using DVI and am hoping that the boot process is just switching to a different video port.  I am going to buy a Displayport to DVI adapter and see if that helps.

Good luck.

The first time I installed Catalina, everything was working as it is now. But the initialization took a long time and in one of the EFI attempts gave KernelPanic and I had to install it again.

I installed Catalina in a new container with OpenCore vanilla tutorial.

NVRAM working, everything apparently working except quicklook and icon preview, cant see a PSD in quicklook (iGPU is enabled in BIOS).

      1. How to fix Quicklook in Catalina?
      2. How to enable Default Boot Os with OpenCore?

Ah.. I need this APPLE folder on EFI?

      Any suggestion?
      Thanks!

      Hi all

I've got a fully working install of Catalina 10.15.5 using OpenCore 0.5.9 and I've managed to get everything working perfectly. It's my first PC Build ever (Let alone Hackintosh) so I'm pretty pleased that I've managed to get everything up and running so far, including Thunderbolt 3 (with hotplug), Sidecar, onboard HDMI Audio, Wifi/BT pairing across both OS (Windows 10 and MacOS). The only thing that now bugs me is the time taken to boot from the Opencore picker to my login screen. It's not super slow by any means, but with my specs I believe it should be faster. Here is what I'm running:

      Intel Core i7 10700K
      Gigabyte Z490 Vision D
      Noctua NH-D15S
      Corsair LPX 3000MHz 32GB RAM (2x16GB)
Adata XPG SX8200 1TB NVMe SSD (MacOS)
Adata XPG SX8200 1TB NVMe SSD (Windows 10)
      Crucial BX200 1TB SSD (Storage)
      Crucial MX500 2TB SSD (Storage)
      Asus 8GB Dual Arez RX580
      Corsair RM650
      Fenvi HB1200

Windows boot is pretty sharp - Usually under 10secs. MacOS on the other hand usually is in the region of ~70secs. When I first installed Catalina it would boot super quick, but it's gotten more and more sluggish over the last few weeks. Is there anything I can do to speed it up? I can attach my EFI if needed.

      Thanks!

      Hello everyone,
I found a guide on how to install Catalina on Lenovo M920q, everything works well but the installation is freezing up.
The USB bootable drive is a recovery one with internet based installation. The internet is working well on the pre-installation setup (I tested it, when you can use the utilities).
The installation is freezing whether I am installing the macOS or not.
I've attached my EFI partition so you can check if there's anything to add.
Will realy appreciate any kind of help (quit noob to the whole thing).
Thanks in advance and stay safe!

NOTE: I did followed up the troubleshooting guide of OpenCore installation forum and the answer was to add the  NullCPUPowerManagement.kext to the kexts and configure it on the .plist file.
This is the original EFI folder: EFI.zip
Thats the one with the NullCPUPowerManagement.kext added: EFI.zip

      Hello guys!
I have a Asus Zenbook with the following characteristics:
      Model: ASUS Zenbook UX310UQ
      CPU: Intel Core i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz
      IGPU: Intel HD Graphics 620
      RAM: 8GBx2 => 16GB RAM Bus 2133
      Wifi: Replaced with DW1560.
      Clover: Clover 5120
      OS: 10.15.6
      UEFI/LEGACY: UEFI
      Storage: SSD Crucial 500GB
      Everything works fine!

I have the WiFi/Bluetooth chipset DW1560 (DCM20702A) and a Logitech K380 Keyboard and magic mouse. My Hackintosh is sleeping fine only problem is that it won't wake from sleep on key presses. I already tested this USB port with a normal keyboard and the result was that it wakes up my Hackintosh on key presses. And in system settings the Bluetooth wake option is enabled, too.
Has someone an idea where the problem could be or which additional settings I have to verify?
      Thank you all

In this thread, I have fully documented the installation of macOS Catalina on my HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini. It is a PERFECT HackMini8,1 and is running very well for me without any issues. I hope this documentation helps you to install macOS on your hack. Please leave feedback if you think there is anything I can improve and let me know if you have any questions.

      Background
This is my first "modern" hack supporting UEFI and my first hack using Clover "on-the-fly" patches.  My previous hacks
Laptop: Thinkpad T61 / Nvidia NVS 140m Laptop: Dell Latitude E6410 / Nvidia G3100m Desktop: Gigabyte G31 / GeForce 9600 Desktop: Biostar TH55HD / Sapphire Pulse RX580 (Google "Catalina Biostar TH55HD" and look for user name deeveedee)
are all perfectly running Catalina and I patched them all "manually" - all DSDT patches applied with MaciSL with virtually no Clover on-the-fly patching and all booted Legacy Clover.  This UEFI hack was MUCH easier and took about 20 hours vs. a combined hundreds of hours for the old hacks.  I wanted a hack that was a little more future proof and I think this is it.  I hope you enjoy this as much as I am enjoying it.  It is a perfect MacMini8,1.
