Hi,

I already posted this message in the French section, but I think I may have more answers here

It's my birthday soon, so I wanna get a new hackintosh (well "new", newer than what I have), since the Core 2 Duo is really getting old and underpowered for my needs.

I have a budget of 100 to 150€

I thought of buying a Optiplex 790/990/7010 (since these Optiplex have a good macOS support, I'm actually using a Optiplex 780, macOS was pretty easy to get running on this pc) And, I saw the chipset used in the 390 doesn't support AHCI, so it's a no-go for a Hackintosh, plus it only have 2 RAM slot.

So I found on eBay:

Optiplex 990 Mini Tower

Intel Core i5 2400@3,1GHz

1x4GB RAM DDR3, that I'll upgrade to 12GB, using my actual 8GB of DDR3

2x500GB HDD that I'll be using for Windows and Linux, I'll add a 240GB SSD and a 1TB HDD that I already have for macOS and my files

Intel HD 2000, but I'll use my Gigabyte GeForce GT 730 2GB (GV-N730D5-2GI REV2.0)

Intel Q67 Express chipset

for 130EUR

Did anyone successfully got Mojave running on the 990 ? Do you have any kexts, DSDT or Clover config files for it ? Does everything works ?

Thanks ;)

I haven't read through all the posts but this guide for Dell OptiPlex 780 (760) (755) (790) (990) has lots of people upgrading to Mojave if you want to take a look. They also have all the kexts and info you'll need.

Thanks, I read that thread.

I found some kexts and DSDT for the 990, even tho I may get a 790 MT with a i7 2600 or a Thinkstation S30 with a Xeon E5-1620 (which both are quad core with hyper threading, better performance than the i5 2400) which I found for not so much (180EUR)

Nice. I have a 790 with a i7-2600 with Mojave, it's a nice machine.

Awesome ! If you have any DSDT or kexts that you use, I'll happily take them if I can't buy the Thinkstation (since the listing say "Selling in lot: 180 units", but anyway I asked if it was possible to buy one unit, waiting for the reply)

EDIT: Well... It looks like I found THE ultimate PC, at least for the price it cost: 160 euros: Dell Precision T3500 : Intel Xeon W3680 6 core 12 threads - 12GB RAM DDR3 - Quadro 3800 :o (yeah I know the GPU isn't supported on macOS tho, I still plan to use my 730, maybe I'll keep the Quadro inside the system, so I have more GPU power available when running Windows 10 or Ubuntu)

I have brought a Optiplex 7010 MT, but that's basically the same (well the chipset in the 990 is the Q67, while in the 7010 it's the Q77))

So yeah Mojave is compatible as long as you have a Metal supported graphics card

With my GT730 I was able to run Mojave with everything working (sound, LAN, USB 3.0, sleep/wake)

Tho now I have brought a GTX 1060, I'm running High Sierra until Nvidia release the web driver for Mojave

If interested, I can post my Clover folder with everything (DSDT, config.plist, kext, driverUEFI64, Lilu+WhateverGreen) if anyone need it

Can confirm, that Optiplex990 works well with Mojave.
If you wan't to minimize effort choose GT710 (or another OOP) as Graphic Card.

My install keeps crashing at 2 minutes remaining, can you post your EFI? I've been trying to get my optiplex 990 to work for over a month now.
