jinxen
Hi! I installed Mac OS X on my pc yesterday, everything works perfectly and i installed the macvidia driver to get a full resolution and that worked perfectly too! But im wondering, is there any way i can check if hardware acceleration is running? Because i think it runs kinda slow? Now the OS but the small things like minimizing and etc. Comp. specs Intel p4 2.8 ghz Nvidia gforce 6600 gt 1 gb ram Every answer will help! Best Regards, Tommy
Rammjet
Macvidia does not yet support QE/CI which are needed to get video acceleration. Go to System Profiler in the Utilities folder and click on Graphics. Then look at Quartz Extreme (QE) and Core Image (CI). Many people are now getting full Nvidia support by installing the latest 10.4.8 with the 8.8.1 kernel and then using Natit.
munky
note that your 2.8Ghz P4 will need to be a Prescott (supporting SSE3) type, rather than a Northwood (SSE2) to use the 8.8.1 kernel.
jinxen
Ok, both QE and CI har labeled as not supported. Ok, is there any easy way to do that? Should i install everything over again or how do i get the new kernel? I will look in to natit what ever it is hmms, its not a prescott, and is not supporting sse3. Can i use natit with the 10.4.7 or?
johto
No you cannot use natit/titan with .7 You are in the same boat as many of us with a Northwood or alike processor that only supports SSE2. You need to wait for SSE2 compatible 8.8.1 kernel which is hopefully build in near future and put it in use with 10.4.8. Then you could install Titan and have QE/CI. So, either wait like many of us, or get a SSE3 supported CPU :I
jinxen
hehe, ok. Then i will do like many others and wait then btw, is there any site that i should follow to catch up when this kind of thing happens?
Waingro
note that your 2.8Ghz P4 will need to be a Prescott (supporting SSE3) type, rather than a Northwood (SSE2) to use the 8.8.1 kernel. Hi munky! I've got an SSE3 Prescott 3 GHz CPU, and an 6800GT (AGP) card. My main question is: after installing from the 10.4.8 JaS DVD, the installed kernel version is lower than 8.8.1. Is it possible to upgrade this install to this (is this the "latest"?) kernel, and if so, are there chances to get Titan or Natit working with QE and CI enabled? After editing the appropriate kexts, Titan and Natit finally worked, but of course without QE and CI. What is the proper route to upgrade the kernel, if it is possible at all? I think a great legion of Hackintosh users are in this boat right now... Thank you! Waingro
