NeilGC Posted November 16, 2006 Share Posted November 16, 2006 Hi I encountered this erro rwhen installing and resolved it by using teh commands fdisk -u /dev/rdisk0 then confirmed Y to write new mbr having suiccesfully installed OSX I have been trying to get a neat dual boot with XP - I repeated the steps above except placed sudo in front of thr fdisk command now I can only boot into OSX via the DVD it will not boot from ther HD I get a repeat of the HFS + Partition error Help! Oh should have said when I try to run the fdisk command I get the following error fdisk: could not open MBR file /usr/standalone/i386/boot0: No such file or directory Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
TopazBar Posted November 17, 2006 Share Posted November 17, 2006 Yes, you are on the right track. What you are doing will work. You just need that file "/usr/standalone/i386/boot0". Here is what you need to do: Insert the install dvd disc and copy the file from dvd disc to /usr/standalone/i386 -or- Boot from install dvd and press F8 When you see darwin boot prompt, enter "-s" without the quotes (this boot to single root user mode) When you see root prompt (#), re-enter your "fdisk -u /dev/rdisk0" command.
