juan_cl
I tried to update to 10.4.8 by applying the 10.4.8 apple combo update, then replacing mach_kernel and smbios.kext. I rebooted, then the computer rebooted itself. on the second reboot, the gray apple screen would stay on for a while, then my screen will turn off. I've tried to repair permissions in single user mode, tried safe boot, but evreything will render me in a black screen. Any E1505/6400 users know workarounds for this? TigerPilot
Did you use the JaS 10.4.8 combo update? If so then try this: Here's a link that describes the problem I had, and the correct fix. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=30606 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/33098-black-screen-after-rebooting-into-1048-dell-e1505/#findComment-233574 Share on other sites

mac.nub
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...32025&st=80 If you'd read the topic you would have seen that I posted this patch was not compatable with Dell Inspiron 6400's with GMA Graphics. As of yet, there is no working fix I have found for this... I had to revert back to Mac OS X 10.4.7 JaS... which worked fine. However make sure to select the GMA 9000 Graphics Driver from the JaS Patches section of the setup. Otherwise it won't work properly! Edit: Later i'm gonna try the GMA fix suggested at: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=3060 - as it just seems to be a graphics issue, will report back later if it works or not. juan_cl
maybe a new GMA driver will work with the new kernel?
