STiMPY
I'm having the same problem with a Satellite 5200-701, ICH3, P4M 2GHz. I've done a "native" install in VMWare and it will boot inside VMWare, but will not boot natively and gives me "waiting for root device". I've been looking for a solution for a bit now, but no luck so far
OoOoOoO
/System/Library/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext/Contents/Info.plist ..... <key>ICH3 ATA/100 Controller</key> <dict> <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> <string>com.apple.driver.AppleIntelPIIXATA</string> <key>Controller Name</key> <string>ICH3 ATA/100</string> <key>IOClass</key> <string>AppleIntelPIIXATARoot</string> <key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key> <string>0x248A8086 0x248B8086</string> <key>IOProbeScore</key> <integer>2000</integer> <key>IOProviderClass</key> <string>IOPCIDevice</string> <key>Supported Transfer Modes</key> <string>0x3f061d</string> </dict> <key>ICH3 ATA/66 Controller</key> <dict> <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> <string>com.apple.driver.AppleIntelPIIXATA</string> <key>Controller Name</key> <string>ICH3 ATA/66</string> <key>IOClass</key> <string>AppleIntelPIIXATARoot</string> <key>IOPCIClassMatch</key> <string>0x01010000&0xffff0000</string> <key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key> <string>0x24818086 0x24008086&0xff00ffff</string> <key>IOProbeScore</key> <integer>1800</integer> <key>IOProviderClass</key> <string>IOPCIDevice</string> <key>Supported Transfer Modes</key> <string>0x1f061d</string> </dict> .... STiMPY
Thanks for the info. Do I need to add this to a particular point in the info.plist file? I've tried adding it to the end and it still doesn't work. EDIT: Rather embarassingly I was editing the wrong Info.plist. I've edited the Info.plist in: /System/Library/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext/Contents/ As per your instructions above. Sadly though, it still doesn't work. Am I doing something wrong? I still get the following: AppleIntelPIIXPATA: ICH3 ATA/100 (CMD 0x170, CTR 0x374, IRQ 15, BM 0xcfa8) IOATA Controller device blocking bus. AppleIntelPIIXPATA: ICH3 ATA/100 (CMD0x1f0, CTR 0x3f4, IRQ14, BM 0xfa0) Still waiting for root device
STiMPY
Hmmm, I'm a little confused now. I've just double-checked the Info.plist at: /System/Library/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext/Contents/ And the ICH3 info was already in there (before my ministrations). So what's going on?
emzo
Yes, it seems like there is ICH3 support, but i get STILL WAITING FOR ROOT DEVICE with 10.4.6 and with 10.4.7. Any ideas how to install it ?
STiMPY
Yes, it seems like there is ICH3 support, but i get STILL WAITING FOR ROOT DEVICE with 10.4.6 and with 10.4.7.Any ideas how to install it ? It should install fine in VMWare doing a "native" install to a physical drive/partition. It did for me anyway. It works fine for me inside VMWare which is where I did the editing of the info.plist file. Trying to boot it natively however gives me: AppleIntelPIIXPATA: ICH3 ATA/100 (CMD 0x170, CTR 0x374, IRQ 15, BM 0xcfa8) IOATA Controller device blocking bus. AppleIntelPIIXPATA: ICH3 ATA/100 (CMD0x1f0, CTR 0x3f4, IRQ14, BM 0xfa0) Still waiting for root device So I'm still a bit stuck Are you getting "waiting for root device" when trying to boot the install DVD? I do.

STiMPY
Yes I Do.I'll try with VmWare and using the previous ICH3 kexts. Did you manage to get any further yet?
emzo
Nope, tried 10.4.1 kexts, but still nothing. Is there any generic kext, i was thinking to delete AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext to see if another kext will load. --- Can some upload somewhere the 10.4.3 IOATAFAMILY.KEXT ?
