Hackintosh for video/graphics - GTX980/1060 - checkup of components

Hi,

It is high time I registered to this forum and ask you guys for advice. It is been 6 years now since I built my first hackintosh. Then, I replaced it with Macbook Pro and now I own Macbook Air 13” Early 2014 with 4 GB RAM. I do really miss the workstation where I could edit my videos and develope some RAW in Adobe software… you can imagine how MBA drives me crazy clear.png. For this reason I would like to build my second hackintosh. The aim is to have my video/graphic work done smoothly. I’m not a gamer yet having a state-of-the-art workstation would be desired.

Components have been more or less taken over from pastrychef’s golden built with small changes:

Questions to be answered:

  • I was thinking about getting EVGA GTX 980 but it’s impossible to find brand new in Germany. What about mentioned Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti? Is is supported? I’m not super experience with current benchmarks stuff and so on and I have no idea what are the pros and cons between same GTX 980 from Gigabyte, MSI, EVGA. Wouldn’t it be better to buy something newer like GTX 1060? I read that NVIDIA released drivers for MacOS recently. If 5K worked seamlessly I wouldn’t hesitate… clear.png
  • Do you have any experience with the BitFenix Prodigy? Will Noctua NH-D15S fit to that case? Maybe there’s enough space to install D15?
  • I also read some post about a bit tricky installation of NVMe SSDs. Does Samsung 960 Pro fall into this category?
  • The last question: Maximus Gene VIII has only one PCIe 3.0 x4 is it then possible to install both PCIe based SSD and Fenvi Wireless/Bluetooth card?

a Gigabyte mother board perhaps would be easyer 1070 gtx works 10.12.4. with web drivers the rest  looks ok

Whoups! Sorry about that! :-) I simply registreted on those two forums :-) Did I understand it correctly - Gigabyte motherboards are more recommended for GTX 1070?

@trixxiee no  I believe there the easyest motherboard to work . and with the web drivers so are the newer Nvidia card. 970. 1070. I just used a 1070 today. and took 20 minutes to get working

Cool, thanks! What about the chassis, CPU cooling and NVMe SSD? Did you have any experience?

Air cooling .  the easy thing to remember is hot air rises. so pull in air from the lower part of the case and expel from the up most part of a case

or positive pressure ,i.e. 3 fans inducting one expelling
