Lawrence.
I might ask you some dumb questions, i'm sorry, i don't claim to be an expert. I've had it with mac OS X, I detest, loathe it. "IT JUST WORKS" - pfft. When vista comes out I want it, it looks fab, i just can't let go of the beauty of the macbook's exterior. Is it possible to remove os X, and have it purely windows vista? to boot up in vista? What will the battery life like? Will the keys on the keyboard work (what will command do? how would i right click? volume/brightness buttons, or will I need to reconfigure them? Will in-built-bluetooth work? WIFI ? Could I attach a windows mp3 player to it? Would it be a shadow to what vista really is, or will it be exacly the same? Are my specs good enough? (1.83 GHZ intel core duo, 512mb, system bus 667mhz, L2 cache 2MB) I presume i'll update the memory to 1GB, do you think that's sufficiant? Thanks alot for your time to read this and i'd really appreciate a bit of help from someone with (evidently) a bit more expertise than myself! John the Geek
i don't claim to be an expert. Or a Mac user for that matter. I've had it with mac OS X, I detest, loathe it. My advice is, regardless whether you install Vista or not, to give it another try. Reinstalling may help, but I'm not sure what kind of problems you're having either. When vista comes out I want it, it looks fab, i just can't let go of the beauty of the macbook's exterior. Is it possible to remove os X, and have it purely windows vista? to boot up in vista? Oh heck yeah it's possible. Just blow the whole drive away with Vistas installer and you'll be single-boot in no time. What will the battery life like? Not sure. Apple hasn't released Vista-safe drivers yet. The XP drivers are getting better, so probably slightly less than your Mac battery life. Will the keys on the keyboard work (what will command do? how would i right click? volume/brightness buttons, or will I need to reconfigure them? This also depends on the Mac software, and how soon it gets updated to Vista. The current (1.1.2) version of Boot Camp really got these better with built-in right clicking (two-finger clicking) and the volume and brightness support works as well. Will in-built-bluetooth work?WIFI ? Again, drivers... Either from Apple, or the manufacturer. Could I attach a windows mp3 player to it? Sure... it's just a Windows box at that point. Would it be a shadow to what vista really is, or will it be exacly the same? Depends on the driver support. If Apple is slow to release those drivers then you'll be playing Vista on your Mac like the OS X86 crowd is playing with Mac OS on their Dell. Not fully supported because of drivers. But at least Apple seems committed to releasing those drivers, but probably not until the retail version of Vista is on store shelves. Are my specs good enough? (1.83 GHZ intel core duo, 512mb, system bus 667mhz, L2 cache 2MB) I presume i'll update the memory to 1GB, do you think that's sufficiant? Yeah, up the RAM. Thanks alot for your time to read this and i'd really appreciate a bit of help from someone with (evidently) a bit more expertise than myself! Lawrence Lawrenceorme@mac.com And .Mac too.... Good luck, but I wouldn't give up on the Mac OS quite yet. =) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/32241-vista-help/#findComment-235345 Share on other sites
alloutmacstoday
you could use boot camp to get drivers for windows on a disk, then start up off of osx disk, erase HD then install vista Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/32241-vista-help/#findComment-246138 Share on other sites
Bartboy919
Dude, I would not blow away OS X untill leopard come out so you can actualy get support if your vista boot crashes or get a fatal error Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/32241-vista-help/#findComment-249352 Share on other sites
