10.4.8 boots to a blue screen... no mouse or keyboard... or picture

I'm running a Intel D975XBX mb with a T6400 Core 2 Duo. I have HPET and NX.

I installed the mifki kernel and I experienced the computer rebooting as soon as the grey apple screen finished.

I installed the semthex kernel and I get past the grey apple screen, to a light blue screen, but I have no mouse or keyboard... or any picture on the screen.

I selected the 1x00 patch in the install (since I am running a X1300 card).

Pressing the F8 key doesn't bring me to a command prompt (I'm talking pressing F8 as soon as the computer finishes its Post). In fact, pressing F8 doesn't do anything.

I know the F-keys work because I can press F2 to get into my BIOS, and I can press F8 to get into Windows safemode.

Any ideas?

I'm having the same issue. Boots fine, gets through the grey apple screen, then all I see is the blue install background. I never see a mouse cursor or install screen. If I hit any keys or mouse buttons, the disc spins, but nothing ever happens. I had no trouble with 10.4.7.

I held down the F8 key until the pc-speaker went nuts, then I let it off.

When the Darwin loader started I held down the F8 key as well.

I experienced the same problems I did when I installed the mifki kernel - after loading the grey apple screen it rebooted.

I think I'm going to be in line for a P5B mb and a Radeon X1600 XT tonight, so I'll hold off any more troubleshooting until I install those.

Jziggy, I had the same issue with my Toshiba A105-S4211 as well. Try connecting your laptop's VGA out port to an external monitor during install. After the install+patches (e.g., GMA950) completes the laptop LCD screen should work fine...at least it did with mine.

FYI, I didn't have this issue with 10.4.7 JaS either. I'm guessing the new kernel needs the GMA950 patch to work properly? Although, with the JaS 10.4.8 reseed I believe it is using the 10.4.4 kernel for install then applies the 10.4.8 update. Anyone have any idea as to why some are having this problem when it worked fine before? Not whining, just curious is all.
