bonald
Successfuly installed 10.4.8 kernel over my 10.4.7 system. Made my alc card work by modifying the kext file. The sound is choppy. Instead of "Ding!" its more like "Ditrrrrrrrrrrrrtting!" Same thing for video, it's choppy. When an icon bounce on the dock it bounce slooowlllly. I've put framebuffer kext from my 10.4.7 system and the problem is the same. QE/CI is installed and working. My system seems slower but Xbench score passed from 90 to 125 on 10.4.8. Very weird. Any idea how to fix this ?
errandwolfe
This MAY work, edit the boot.info.plist (I think that is the file) basically the file where you can pass flags to the kernel at boot up. Make sure you set your FSB speed in the file. I know this was a big cause for my clock issue and have a feeling it may be the same for what you are describing. I already scrapped my 10.4.8 and am downloading the new release so I can not test for you at the moment.
munky
definitely sounds like your FSB isnt being detected properly. both 10.4.8 kernels have options for setting the FSB.. .you'll need to figure out what it should be. eg for a 667Mhz FSB system, its 166Mhz (its x4 for some reason), or for an 800Mhz FSB system, it should be 200Mhz (again, x4). hth
bonald
Can it be related to this error ? The system boot fine but this error is at startup. GFX0: family specific matching fails display: family specific matching fails GFX0: match category IOFramebuffer exists Well it's not working. I've tried fsb=100 fsb=166 fsb=200 Same problem. I've try mifki, semthex and lsd kernel. All the same. Are you using the 10.4.8 kext or the 10.4.6 kext for your alc sound?
subtext1
Provide complete hardware description when posting for help. Which mobo, CPU, sound chip specifically? Do you OC? bonald
OK Finally got it working. Looks like the kernel I was using was not detecting my cpu clock correctly even when using fsb= Now i am using Deamons kernel and everything is working excellent. CPU is detected as 1.86 is system profiler. Xbench score dropped to 90 but system is faster.. really i don't understand this.
