Hello.

I had a really stable working installation of sierra (latest version)

Everything was working fine until one of the rams failed. I had 2 8gb ddr4 sticks.

After removing the problematic ram I initially got a CPU panic error. Tried several clover boot flags with no success.

I then changed the ram placement slot. Now I don't get a CPU panic error but the boot is stuck at apple logo with the progress bar barely moved. Like 1%

If I boot with -v this is the last entry:

"appleusblegacyro" I feel like it's cut before it hangs.

My system is config is:

I5 6500

Asus z170i pro gaming

Asus GTX 970 strix

8gb Ddr4 corsair

2 SSD and 1 HDD

I have always managed to install and run OS X with no huge problems.

Hello and welcome to InsanelyMac!

Did you tried clean the CMOS?

Yes. I had to. The system wasnt booting at all until I figured out that was a faulty ram.

If I had to guess this probably have to do with the bios config. I think I have it right..

I managed to solve this after 3 days of madness!  :D

I don't know what actually solved this problem but here's the steps I did to solve it:

  • Updated the BIOS to the last version available: BIOS 2002
  • Reset BIOS to optimized defaults and toggle off/on the usual stuff. VT-d off, CFG-Lock disabled, Secure Boot Mode disabled, XHCI Handoff enabled
  • Unplugged all HDD and SDD except for the one with macOS.
  • Started up and.. Success!
  • Plugged everything again, and it's now running flawlessly!

Maybe it was the BIOS update or the BIOS reset for the 1000th time.. Or maybe everything.
