errandwolfe Posted November 1, 2006 Share Posted November 1, 2006 I have installed the JaS 10.4.8 install DVD, and for the most part it is running quite nicely. My only problem (and its a doozie) is that OS X only recognizes one core (running a Pentium D 805). I have two hard drives, one with the mifki kernel, one with the semthex kernel. Both kernels see only one core. Is there something I have to add in the boot flags? Is anyone else having this issue? Baliw Posted November 1, 2006 Share Posted November 1, 2006 Yup, we have the same problem atm, but if you look at the system activity monitor you will notice that it shows 2 cpu, It may be a problem in system profiler. It is showing as two CPU's in Performance Monitor, but even more telling is my XBench score has jumped up over 50 points! God, Budha, Jah, Allah, and any other diety I may have forgotten JaS and his team! Can't wait to really put it through its paces later on! In the mean time, everything seems to be working, have QE/CI, LAN, Sound (I think, no speakers at work), Firewire, wahoo! It might be your mobo/bios. try updating to the latest BIOS release and see if that helps any. fabcat Posted November 5, 2006 Share Posted November 5, 2006 If you are getting wildly different xbench scores with the mifki/semthex kernels then you got with the old kernel, then that most likely means your fsb (front side bus) speed has not been indicated properly to the kernel so your scores are wrong. Not only this, but if you don't have this set right, then your time clock will be running too fast/slow and system events that depend on time (eg apps bouncing in the dock) will be at the wrong speed. Now that I mention this you have probably noticed it - yes? You can let the kernel know the fsb speed by updating the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist file. There is a different way of indicating the speed depending on which kernel you use (mifki or semthex). Do a search through these forums to find the appropriate method.
