nbritton
Will macOS Sierra support 256 GB of RAM? Has anyone empirically confirmed this? The last I knew there was 128 GB limit back in Mavricks. I'd like to put 8x32GB modules in my Mac Pro 2010. The Intel Xeon X5690 is capable of supporting 288 GB per processor and Intel has validated 32 GB modules. I don't see any hardware reason why it wouldn't support 256 GB. My goal for all this memory is to setup a virtualized OpenStack testing lab using Parallels Desktop Pro at home... I don't want to pay for the electricity to run a rack of nodes, nor do I have the space.
MacUser2525
Even if it did could run into firmware limitations, time to call Apple and see if they put support for those size of modules in the 2010 machines.

Well last night I decided to buy a set so I could reach a definitive answer. I purchased a set of Kingston KTH-PL316LLQ/32G for . New specs are: 32 GB PC3L-12800 (1600 MHz) CL11 ECC Quad Rank. Old specs are: 16 GB PC3L-12800 (1600 MHz) CL11 ECC Dual Rank. I've already confirmed that PC3L-12800 CL11 works. So the only thing that is changing is 16 GB Dual Rank to 32 GB Quad Rank. This should be a good test. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kingston-256GB-8x-32GB-PC3L-12800-1600MHz-ECC-Server-Memory-KTH-PL316LLQ-32G-/121812011630?hash=item1c5c8fca6e:g:3qcAAOSw14xWQmEJ

Hell I even have two standard PCs here that I used left over ECC ram from when I had a 5,1 machine. It works fine in them but that is not the same as a firmware limitation on the size of the modules that can be installed/supported. Hopefully it works for you when they get there. Christ I despise 504 Bad Gateway ngnix as a web server software.
nbritton
I had to cancel the order because the modules I ordered were Load Reduced LRDIMMS, I didn't notice that when I first placed the order.
