Hi all. So far with my z170x board everything works great with the exception for my graphics. No matter what I try (nvda_drv=1, inject nvidia with clover or no flags my el capitan install always boots to black screen when using web drivers. When booting with nv_disable=1 I get graphics but barely usable. Any help or suggestions would be great. Specs in sig.

I solved this issue for my sake.

System and all functions are working fine now.

This is what worked for me:

1. Boot up with nv_disable=1, make sure nvda_drv=1 is not in the boot args, as you are doing.

2. Remove inject nvidia from clover

3. Set SMBIOS to IMac 14.1 or 14.2

4. Install Nvidia Web driver OR Enable Nvidia driver (change it from OS X Default in the Nvidia Ctrl panel is installed)

5. Reboot with nvda_drv=1 boot arg and remove the nv_disable=1

It's worth mentioning that none of my Display Ports on the GTX cards are working, only HDMI, but still I'm getting 3840x2160 on both my 28" displays or even full 4k, if I want, but I find full 4k too high res, even on those monitors.

Good luck.

Well, for me the *only* change I made to make the Nvidia Web drivers work was changing from my MacPro setting in SMBIOS to IMac 14.1 (Hashwell).

I was a simular post somewhere and after struggling with this issue for weeks on end I thought, what the hell, let's give it a try and hey, it worked ;)

Works great now, tried it with some games and gives great results.

I might be worth mentioning I did also remove Inject Nvidia from Clover.

You my friend are a legend. Thank you very much.

First of all

Having issues with boot with this GPU.
I have to connect and disconnect my monitor several times to get the hackintosh to boot.

Using Display Port and HDMI ports this is what I get:

OsxAptioFixDrv : Starting overrides for System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi

Error Allocating 0x166dd pages at 0x00000000101ae000 alloc type 2
Couldn't allocate runtime area
Boot failed, sleeping for 10 seconds before exiting...

Sometimes it boots, sometimes it doesn't. I just plug and unplug the display port cable while booting until it works.

Then. Issues are specific when encoding videos and playback in Premiere Pro CC 2015.

I can't encode in MPEG Streamclip. It just shows me a green screen with every video I open with it.
Its hard to encode with Adobe Media Encoder. Sometimes it works well, sometimes it freezes in the encoding process or even start. Then I have to restart hackintosh and then it encodes.

Playback 1080p videos in mp4, H264 is painfully. It just don't play smooth never. I have to encode to Apple Pro Res, and then suffer with encoding problems mentioned above.

Also, I can't play video on Ableton Live. It just don't show any image but I can hear audio of the same track.
It seems to me that some of the apps are not having communication with the GPU.

But playback of movies and general stuff is ok in VLC, Netflix, and Quicktime.

I did my installation with Clover. Running El Capitan 10.11.1.

Thanks in advanced

You still can use iMac17,1 for SMBios,, it will give you better power management.
If you got black screen, then try to edit info.plist at "AppleGraphicsControl.kext/contents/Plugins/AppleGraphicsDevicePolicy.kexts/Contents" and search for board-id that you used at ConfigMap section, and edit key "Config2 to none". Then reinstall the kext  :thumbsup_anim:

Andres. I managed to ge to edit the info.plist but don't find the key "ConfigMap2" in any part of the code. Im just seeing "ConfigMap"

Theres the ConfigMap part. Where should I change "ConfigMap2 to none"?

So, I changed the info.plist. It seems to work since I rebooted three times and did not get black screen. But then I turned off power unplugging the power chord and then I'm getting the same error again when booting. I try to switch to Internal Graphics and managed to boot, but the resolutions is very low.

I already installed El Capitan 10.11.3 update and also my NVidia Graphic Card drivers are up to date.

:( a this moment can't boot to my hackintosh with GX960.

Writing from cellphone.

No,, did you boot UEFI Mode?? If yes, then try to change "OsxAptioFixDrv.efi" to "OsxAptioFix2Drv.efi". Don't use both, but you need select one.
You can found the file at "EFI/Clover/Driver64Uefi"
:)

I think the black screen is already fixed!

Problems with the software persist. With all of them. I have 32GB RAM, GTX960, Intel i7 4790k.

There should be video running without dropframes at all with that hardware. Don't you think? hehe

Thanks dude!

Its hard to encode with Adobe Media Encoder. Sometimes it works well, sometimes it freezes in the encoding process or even start. Then I have to restart hackintosh and then it encodes.

Encoding means processing the video to set it in different quality. Its like transforming a PNG to JPEG, but in video, that obviously takes a lot more image processing.

Then, the most annoying thing is with playback in programs like Premiere Pro (for video editing) and Ableton Live (for sound producing). With my hardware I shouldn't have problems playing the videos inside this editors. What happens basically is that i play video for viewing it and then cut, but the video stops, or drop frames, meaning freeze between frames, and the video plays like sticky.

Also, in Ableton Live, certains videos can't be viewed at all. I just shows me a black screen.

It seems to me that some of the apps are not having properly communication with the GPU.
But then playback in non editing softwares like VLC, Netflix, and Quicktime are ok. So this is specific with video editing software only.

Thanks,, maybe i must check with Adobe Premiere first. Tonight i will let you know for the result ;)

Hi Andres!

Dude I would have to add playing videos from Facebook to the problems list. There is no issue with Vimeo or Youtube embedded videos but those that are natively uploaded to Facebook get sticky. Same problem that occurs in Premiere Pro.

Did you checked PP?

Thanks for your help!
