Snow Posted October 2, 2015 Share Posted October 2, 2015 Hi guys, I seem to have an issue with Finder not remembering the scroll position when I use the back button. It will always move to the top of the parent folder. Apple + arrow up works fine but I am used to using the back button.Any idea how I can solve this? Did they change the behaviour of the back button in El Capitan? I have cleaned caches and removed finder.plist, no luck. Thanks in advance. Snow Posted October 3, 2015 Author Share Posted October 3, 2015 Very annoying indeed, breaks your workflow doesn't it and that is just why we use osx. There aren't many reports about this issue so I guess something has gone wrong during our install/upgrade/migration. How did you install El Capitan and what system do you use? real mac? upgrade from Yosemite, clean install, etc.... I did a clean install and then migrated apps and settings from yosemite. For now I have mapped the pen button (wacom tablet) that I use in adobe apps for undo to enclosing folder (apple + up arrow) I still have my Yosemite install and no issues there, the position is saved even when re-opening windows while on El Capitan it's like a constant reset (top of window) when I browse folders. I don't know how the heck they release a final version with these type of really obvious bugs. And other problem with Finder is that don't goes to top if you press the home button. It lacks a bit to go to top of folder. franmglp Posted October 3, 2015 Share Posted October 3, 2015 I was also surprised until I saw your post. If you report bugs to Apple they don't give a f*ck. A lot of bugs in the first betas of Yosemite are still present in El Capitan. I was thinking about buying a Mac but now... I can't imagine spending a lot of money to buy a Mac and then dealing with their OS X that is getting sh*ttier every day. Anyway I think that fortunately, despite the problems it's causing me, El Capitan is better than Yosemite and very close to Mavericks... seems very fast and very stable but man, if you don't fix your software I'm not going to buy your products. A lot of software I use don't work on El Capitan and I need this software to work. I'm thinking reverting to Mavericks and continue with my current hackintosh or directly changing to Windows. Snow Posted October 3, 2015 Author Share Posted October 3, 2015 Like you I want to buy an imac but for me it's the slow performance on the 5k screens (lightroom, etc...) and more importantly the noise that people are reporting with the spec'd out imac (i7 and R9 295) My system is almost dead silent and since the imac is not customisable I would be stuck with a noisy rig with slow graphic performance, not a risk I am willing to take for 3,5k. Are you sure though it's not just us with the Finder issue? Did you do a clean install? I can't remember if Finder acted like this before I migrated my settings from Yosemite drive. After a clean install the bug is still present and even after updating to 10.11.1 beta. Two users in the spanish forum confirmed to me that they have the bug so I'm pretty sure that everybody have this issue. I also think Finder now forgets where you left off when closing/opening windows, have to check that in Yosemite. Snow Posted October 3, 2015 Author Share Posted October 3, 2015 Alright mate. Also, I just checked in Yosemite and Finder should remember where you left off. So for instance when you browse a drive in Finder and then close the window, then open Finder again and select the same drive it shows where you left off (scroll position) Finder in El Capitan does not. Maybe this was their intention but if not it's a pretty big bug to miss like you mentioned. Overall the OS feels smooth though so I would like to use the Yosemite drive for caches and scratch but not until I am certain this is a bug or just on our end. I trust your word but will keep Yosemite available a little while longer just to make sure. Thanks for your input. I'll keep you updated, hope you'll do the same. bilb0baggins Posted October 3, 2015 Share Posted October 3, 2015 There is also a similar "jumping" problem in iTunes, where it jumps to the top of whatever view of your music you're in. :/ The OS overall is faster but maybe I should have waited until .1 or .2 before making the jump. These little bugs combined with the Office 2016 lag are piling up in a way no OSX version has for me since...maybe Lion. I recall it being pretty rough out of the box too.
