Hi there,

I'm trying for several days to get my sound working without success in sight.

My first problem is that I'm not entirely sure about my audio chipset. I'm running on an Acer X58M, which is most likely based on the Intel X58 chipset. Trying to identify the chipset via lspci yields:

00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller [8086:3a3e]

Now I tried most of the 888 and 1200 guides and kexts which I could find, but the trial and error approach sucks if I'm not even certain about which audio chipset to use.

In addition to this, I have some major comprehension issues regarding Clover which leave a lot of questions for a beginner when following the install guides.

Most installment methods require to inject a layout id. There appear to be several ways of doing so. Like using an Enabler, DSDT editing or Clover audio inject. Now, are these methods equally powerful? So, when the install instructions require me to install an EnablerX.kext or do a DSDT edit, could I instead simply inject the audio id X via Clover?

Which of these methods is considered most "vanilla"? I'd prefer using the Clover edit, as it is so simple.

Now, on the other hand, if I decide to do DSDT editing by myself; how do I have to handle Clover then? It appears that the ACPI flags inject DTGP and HDEF to the DSDT. When I manually added those to the DSDT, do I have to remove these Clover flags then? Also the Clover audio injection id; should I remove it when I already specified a layout id in the DSDT?

There are a lot of helpful resources out there, but the sheer mass of available information and ways of doing something makes it incredibly hard to understand for me right now.
