Windows 8.1 installer says GPT is MBR

Greetings!

I've sucessfully installed Yosemite on my new machine (GB Z97X, i7 4790K) using Clover in UEFI mode so it's time to install Windows to run some games, however when I boot from Windows install USB drive, the ruddy windows tell me that they can not use the free partition because it's MBR instead of GPT, which it isn't.

Disk Utility in OS X clearly shows it's GPT:

Partition Map Scheme : GUID Partition Table

Disk Identifier : disk0

Media Name : Samsung SSD 850 PRO 512GB Media

Can you tell what's going on and how to fix it, please?

Thanks!

Welcome to insanelymac.

You probably have a Hybrid MBR/GPT.

This could happen if you format a partition as FAT32 in disk utility.

If that's the case, delete the partition and recreate an HFS partition using disk utility and use the Windows installer to reformat it to NTFS.

Alternatively, if you have the skills, use gdisk to convert to pure GPT.

That's exactly what happened and now it's working perfectly, thank you very much! :)

Should anyone encounter the same issue, it might be worth mentioning that the Windows installer wasn't able to reformat an HFS+ partition and I additionally had to erase it and create a new one in the free space (the installer can do that).

There's my first Hackintosh set up in less than 24 hours since the components arrived, which is absolutely fantastic. Many thanks to the people who help the OSx86 Project evolve – it's splendid.
