spyhunter88
Hi all, I am using a GPT disk and boot by UEFI. Windows already running and has 6 partition: p0: Windows -> p1: EFI -> p2: MSR -> p3: empty (to install MAC OS) -> p4,5: data. I created and boot successfully from USB (UEFI), run into DiskUltitily to Erase p3 for MAC but I can't. First, this is Unllocated and I get stuck on "preparing to partition disk" for long time. Then I Restart, back to Windows and format p3 to NTFS. Try again with Erase and get this message: "MediaKit reports not enough space ...). My USB installer create by Install Clover into a small partition (in USB) and Extract MacOSXYosemite.dmg into the other partition. Is there something on Clover Customize or Patch the installer to make it erase and don't touch others partitions? Current Disk: Thanks, Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/302305-cant-erase-mediakit-reports-not-enough-space/ Share on other sites
justniell
Well, based on my experience, the partitioning should be done in OS X, I've encountered the same problem when I do the partitioning in Windows. I don't really know how to solve this without messing other partitions, cause I ended up repartitioned my harddrive through OS X installer. spyhunter88
Yep, I end up with re-partition in Disk Utility (in MAC OS Installer), but this awful. I install in to another 1TB disk, I spend 100GB for MAC OS, and 2 partitions for data, but MAC can not resize 2 data partitions to 700GB-100GB, I have to choose 500GB-300GB for data. But that's not the main problem. I come back to Windows (in disk 1), Windows can not see all partitions in disk 2 (that's my MAC lives), even if it's FAT32. I try AOMEI Partitions, it can see all partitions but can not format (an internal error appear). I try to partition 2 data partitions with Disk Management come in Windows, it said "the operation you selected will convert the select basic disk(s) to dynamic disk(s). blah blah blah.." I don't want to install any software in Windows to read-write these partitions. I spend my money to buy 1TB hard disk for extends my data and use both Windows and MAC, not to use MAC only. Unfortunately, you DO need 3rd-party app to read/write OS X partition, which is formatted as HFS+ Okay, Windows cannot read your partitions for OS X, can't even see it and this is why DATA should be formatted/partitioned through Windows (as FAT32/exFAT/NTFS). So here's the idea, when I dualboot Windows and OS X and repartitioned my HDD, I did it in Disk Utility and put OS X as Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) while DATA and WINDOWS as "Free Space" then when I'm on Windows installer, it reads the "Free Space" partition for Windows System and DATA as one "Unallocated Space" then I "Add New Partition" for Windows and for DATA. Even though after Windows installation complete, I still need to format my DATA partition as NTFS (prefer it than FAT) then add a "Letter" so Windows can mount it Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/302305-cant-erase-mediakit-reports-not-enough-space/#findComment-2083323 Share on other sites
spyhunter88
I'll give a try. Now in Disk Management I can see only one partition as "Unallocated Space" for 2 data partitions. When I open read by Paragon or AOMEI, I can see it adds a small 128MB after each partitions I formatted in MAC. I can format NTFS in Paragon but nothing happen, nothing appears in Explorer. My Windows run in disk 1, so can I only format "Unallocated Space" in disk 2 by Windows Installer without Installing new Windows? Could this lead to lost my running MAC OS. Well if you can format that unallocated space in Disk Management, just do it there and yes, I found that as well, when I partition from OS X it created another hidden partition for about 100MBs. I don't use Paragon, so I can't tell wether it's your disk or the program. But, if you want to format it through Windows Installer, go ahead oh have you try looking for the partitions with diskpart? I use diskpart to format partition if there's anything wrong with it, usually for DATA and diskpart can see all partitions (including OS X but it didnt really recognize it and you might not want to mess with that) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/302305-cant-erase-mediakit-reports-not-enough-space/#findComment-2083644 Share on other sites
spyhunter88
Ha ha, I use Disk Management in Windows and it convert to Dynamic Disk. I must choose MiniTool Wizard to convert back to Basic Disk (GPT) and lost all partition. After that, I partition into 2 piece, the first one for EFI System Partition, MAC OS, Recovery HD (about 102 GB) and leave it unformatted, another for Data with NTFS (~800GB) and now Window can see it. Then I installer into unformatted space and it works, Disk Utility create EFI, MAC OS and Recovery HD partition inside Unformatted space. spyhunter88
Yes, I think we could use third party software to format and partition the disk, include spend an unformatted space. Maybe the old one I tried is an formatted partition, so Disk Utility can not resize to create Recovery HD (and EFI) partitions. 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/302305-cant-erase-mediakit-reports-not-enough-space/#findComment-2083996 Share on other sites
Austere.J
Since your partition map is GPT and the ESP partition is already larger than 200MB, I guess maybe Mac cannot recognize your current partition map as a valid GPT disk. It is better to move your ESP partition in front of the Win OS partition. Like this: ESP MSR Win7 ... OS X... spyhunter88
Yes, I see but I don't want to change because I have nothing to backup my data, and it works normally with only Windows in it. Also, I use another disk to install MAC OS and with new disk, I follow the order: EFI, MAC OS, Recovery and Data so on.
