This whole thing is fairly new to me as I just found out about this two days ago but had to give it a try. Having never used OSX before except for maybe 5 minutes on someone elses Mac, I really know very little about it. I thought I would provide my experience with getting this to run on a Thinkpad X31 laptop that I have as a spare. My results were quite surprising to me as most linux distros I've played with on here typically have their problems. So here it goes:

Hardware:

Thinkpad X31 2673-CTO

1.6MHz Intel Pentium M processor

40 GB HDD

512 MB Ram

ATI Radeon Video (Not sure which one right now)

1USB port

1 Firewire port

Intel 2200B/G wireless

Intel Wired LAN

SSE2

First, i tried using the deadmoo image as it was the firstthing I could find and obtain easily. I placed the image on a share of a Windows 2003 server. I booted the X31 with a Linspire 5.0 Live CD. I used Linspire because I know that the wireless card works right off the bat with this distro. Since I was going to dd the image over the wireless, this seemed like the easy thing to do. So I booted into Linspire, got wireless working with my AP and mounted the windows share to gain access to the image. I dd'd the image (which took a while over wireless) and let it run all night. When I got up the next morning the dd was complete. I rebooted and instantly I was in OSX. Now, it seemed to run a bit slow, so I found some threads about fixing that. The first thing I found was to delete an extension and reboot. i did that and things seemed to speed up. At this point, wired LAN, sound and video at 1024x768 was working great. I tried Itunes but it didn't run. It looked like I had a Firewire LAN connection, but I don't have anything to use with that so it was untested. I also didn't try any usb at this time.

Now I wanted to see what else I could do, since I had a 40 gb hdd and wanted to use the whole thing. I found the full developer dvd and proceeded to use that. I performed a full install and when it completed I rebooted and everything came right up. No sound was the first big thing I noticed. I also wanted to take care of the slowness issues. By now I found the Maxxuss SSE2 and AntiTPM patches and installed those. After rebooting things were working fine. Still no sound, and of course no wireless ethernet. My DiskGo 1GB USB memory key was instantly recognized and functioned just fine. I do still show a "Built-in Firewire" network connection, but again, I have nothing to test with. I don't have any firewire equipment. I started Itunes, which ran but I had no sound. It asked me to upgrade as a newer version was available, so I did. After the upgrade it still ran but no sound. I found the wiki page that described how to get AC97 sound working. After following those instructions, sound works beautifully, ITunes was streaming away with no issues.

Audio Card info:

Multimedia Audio Controller: Intel Corp 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (Rev 01)

Vendor ID: 8086

Device ID: 24c5

Video will still only display at 1024x768 millions of colors. I have not played with this yet but I suspect it's just some driver issues. Since the laptop will only support this resolution or lower, I don't see any immediate problem wih it

As far as I can tell, all applications seem to run at this point

Here's my Xbench results:
