pechonalidad
Hey everyone. I just installed the deadmoo image to a 6.6GB partition as per the instructions on this page ("Install on a Partition Simple and Accurate"). I set up my boot.ini in WinXP so it would allow me to boot into OSx86, and everything works fine (as I'm used to seeing OS X on my Mac) except that everything is black and white and looks rather grainy. Please advise me as to how to fix this problem. EDIT: BTW my system is SSE2. Try going to the BIOS and try doing this: Advanced => Video Configuration => Video Buffer Size => 8MB That fixed my problem black and white problem. Good luck! Thanks for the help, but that option isn't in my BIOS.. I have a feeling it's a problem with my graphics card, which is an Intel 845. There was something about the drivers for it on this very sticky page but I can't do that fix in OSx86 because my screen is so grainy! However I can access the files on my mac partition using MacDrive 6 in Windows, so if anyone can tell me how to do the same thing from there that would be great. I'm actually not sure if the fix I've linked to has anything to do with the blac-and-whiteness I'm getting; if anyone knows please tell me. Look around in the BIOS; I have an Intel 845GV, so our problems are identical. I'm sure there's something in the BIOS that is set to 1MB. The 1MB thing causes the grainyness. If you can increase it, it should work. pechonalidad
eggman, that sounded like just the thing so I went into my BIOS and tried to look for something that looked even REMOTELY like "video configuration" or "video buffer size" or even "1 MB" and there's absolutely nothing. I looked through every category of the BIOS options on my Dell Dimension 4500S BIOS Version A00 (yes that's the most recent version). Does anyone know of any way to change this setting other than using the BIOS???? Thanks in advance. EDIT: This link gives a complete summary of the BIOS options on my computer. pechonalidad
Looks like I'm gonna have to upgrade my video card to an one that allows video buffering; I talked to a Dell support guy who said that's the only way to change that setting in the BIOS. Anyone (other than eggman) know if this'll allow OSx86 to boot properly and/or in color? SUBMarcos
Another possibility is that your Bios isnt updated. If that turns out to be true, updating it will enable those ooptions that your machine doesnt have. I think I found an update for your BIOS... I'm not sure, though. Try here: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/...=3&fileid=55446 Also, look at your motherboard. I don't know much about Dell, but they may use motherboards by a company, such as Intel. If they do, download the generic, non-Dell BIOS from the manufactuer's web site. Big Kahuna
I'm running into the same issue on a Dell inspiron 1100. I cannot change the 1MB option, it's locked, no changes. Not comfortable with flashing with an intel bios because i'm not totally sold that it's an intel board. Any ideas yet? Update: Inspiron 1100 BIOS Update A29, adds UMA size option.. thanks linux issues. haah Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/2977-osx86-boots-in-grainy-black-and-white/#findComment-21462 Share on other sites
Appleseed
I'm able to adjust the buffer from 1MB to 8MB on my Dimented 2400, but to no avail. Still getting the B&W grainy. I've experiemented quite a bit with the 830kext solutions floating around, but seem destined for frustration. On the plus side, my 8200 runs like a champ.
