Alcyone
I have a radeon 9250 graphics card and acer al2016w widescreen LCD. I've tried pretty much every version of the Callisto driver, but have not had sucess. I changed my device ID and added the 128 byte hex value for my monitor as per the instructions. I also tried these drivers without adding the 128 byte hex value and just changing the device ID. But no matter what I do, it doesn't work. The best I've gotten is it boots up with 1024x768 resolution. Then, when I go into displays to see the list of resolutions, the list appears and then the screen goes black after about 2 seconds with my monitor giving me an "input not supported" message. If I hook up a CRT monitor, I just get a black screen. With both the CRT and my LCD widescreen monitor, I've tried using the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard to toggle through all the resolutions when the black screen occurs, but I can't get the picture back. I've gone through this routine about 10 times (having to perfrom a fresh installation of OSX each time), but I'm not having success. Am I correct in assumming that the callisto drivers are not compatible with my Powerspec Radeon 9250? Do I need to update to a better ATI card? The best res I've been able to achieve is 1280x1024 (without callisto) and it's really annoying. Or is it that the driver installed in the 10.4.6 installation is remaining and conflicting with the Callisto driver? I'm running 10.4.6 JAS. Thanks in advance. Alcyone
Rammjet, THANK YOU!!!!!!! That did it! Words can't describe how happy I am. Been trying at this for ages. I used the Callisto_b008 driver. Changed the device id and CallistoUseAltPllMethod to true. Didn't bother putting in the monitor hex value. Now I'm enjoying 1680x1050 res. :-) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/29388-callisto-driver-with-radeon-9250/#findComment-202416 Share on other sites
BladeRunner
@RammJet: My thanks to you as well. I have been attempting to instal the Callisto driver for the past two days with no luck - until now. I have a Diamond Stealth Radeon 9250 pci card in my test system and it was limited to 1024x768 resolution. What I have now is not exactly correct, but it is much better. My monitor is an IBM P72 (17" crt) but it is connected through a KVM switch which allows me to use the display, keyboard & trackball on any one of the three systems stacked on or under my desk. The KVM switch appears to prevent me from retrieving the monitor hex value. This is what System Profiler now shows for my Graphics Card: Radeon 9200 Pro: Chipset Model: Radeon 9200 Pro Type: Display Bus: PCI Slot: PCI Slot #2 - J901I VRAM (Total): 256 MB Vendor: ATI (0x1002) Device ID: 0x5960 Revision ID: 0x0001 Displays: Cinema Display: Display Type: LCD Resolution: 1680 x 1050 Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Not Supported Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Not Supported If you have any advice on how to get the monitor hex value I would appreciate the help. MichielM
Followed that link too and it worked well for me. Only thing which doesn't work is my s-video out (for viewing DVDs at my TV). Anyone who has a briliant idea is welcome (And my Creative Audigy 2 is working neither ) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/29388-callisto-driver-with-radeon-9250/#findComment-204463 Share on other sites
BaselineAce
A working driver! Now all we need is hardware OpenGL and QE/CI! CallistoFB is causing videos to show up green in Quicktime, but the IONDRV Framebuffer works just fine. Guest sincro77
so--- just for kicks i was/am doing a project- trying to get the drivers working for this old setup im stuggling a bit... but im determined. relevant info: it has intel gma845 onboard g raphics-- but i also added a radeon 9250 pci.... in windows xp i actually get to use triple monitors. ! Its surprising, somehow windows bypasses the fact ive selected pci video in the bios and it still enables the onboard video. 3 screens/./.!! * that doesnt work on any of my newer motherboards..) onboard+pcix simultanious output. anyways in osx-- I have tried many things to just get dual screens going i HAVE HAD MIxed results using tiger and leopard....versions etc.. ; (I managed to get the gma845 to do resolution switching and monitor detection.- "vga compatible" by adding devid 80862562 to the intelintegratedgraphics.kext in 10.4.0 developer.(first osx86).version.. ..but that version of the OS was not fully functional.:(i couldnt get stuff to work )it was buggy. : : I have gotten 8500 kext linstalled for the card>> but open gl is not even working.properly. so its not too "accellerated" at all... I realize this is a pci card and its gutless... but i know it can at least work to its better potential. my results: in tiger : I can almost get dual screen- (kind of)..its buggy.. but the arrangement tab shows 2 screens !but one is the confused with the onboard video signal (gma) . i notice "ioframebuffer loaded" during verbose when using rd=disk0s1 redirect command from dvd only. :wtf.! * Somehow its being routed overtop the radeon screen.. i get 2 mouse pointers and its all buggy.. but .. its in the right direction.its close... so i played with framebuffers a bit.. hmm/. need help.. ! come on..!? I NEED DUAL MONITORS ! I DONT CARE IF ITS DUAL screens from 9250 (both heads (vga-dvi) -- or from the onboard(single)vga +9250(single) vga or dvi ~!! in leopard : callisto and 8500 .kext etc do not enable a second screen in the display options. looking at the ioreg etc... it seems maybe the files affecting that are "ioplatformfamily and maybe system.kext/plugins/iondrv. framebuffer etc etc. ... the " com.windowmanager" file for settings in Lib/prefs -possibly. I know the 8500 kext are ppc .. but I finally found "universal binaries" for versions 10.5.03 ati8500kext etc. I copied their contents into10.5.48 kexts (forced version compatibility)and installed those.I was crossing my fingers..but no go. .they load /show up in sysprof. - but still no qe ci./dual screen!! {censored}. note: I own an ibook with a radeon 9200 mobility agp -and it has" detect displays tab "showing> and it has "enabled qe - with "software ci".in sysprofiler ... so- i was comparing the ioreg. files of the two. ..) Ive also tried :overwriting/hacking atindrv.kext /plugins - aty, aliopias with the callisto fb .. with natit.kext,,, in leopard.(a workaround for natit that i discovered. .. the problem is dual detection isnt happening with monitors. Conclusion: so far ; my best result : is just single screen > /:using 1680x1050 over DVI digital with Callisto v.8 (auto pll =yes) ./.... but its mirrored output to vga port. grr . no arrangement tab... no dual screen working. and as we know callist is not an accelerator. just a FB. in leopard.// 10.5.8.... i noticedtiger does feel faster on this older hardware....hmm. Ive tried alot of solutions but im looking for some suggestions..l this isjust for fun.. no big deal/.. thanks guys : ) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/29388-callisto-driver-with-radeon-9250/#findComment-1784799 Share on other sites
