Vieux Lyon
Hello: I've spent hours and hours trying to fix a problem, reading hundreds of posts and asking in the chatroom but still can't find a solution, maybe I was not making myself clear so I'll ask again in this forum giving all the details I can. Hope this time it works 1.- I installed Mac OS X 10.4.3 and succeded in updating it to 10.4.4 and .5. The problem is that those three distributions perform very slowly on my PC. Those times I installed from the following images: 8F111 and Myzar. When trying to customize the installation, the I just checked a generic "Patches" item, not specifying which ones to install. 2.- I tried installing 10.4.6 and .7 (JaS images) and was able to install them successfully, and they work *much* faster then the previous releases. The problem is: neither of my ethernet adapters work under this distribution. Both adapters are based on a RTL8139 chipset, they should be 100% compatible and tried every possible solution (using old kexts and others). When installing this images, I've choosen the "SSE3 Patch" when customizing the installation; there where others but none of them fitted my hardware configuration. 3.- My problem: I want to have Mac OS running with my network cards but as fasts as 10.4.7 did on my computer. Does anyone know what is the problem? I think trying to make those two adapters work on 10.4.7 is useless so I am aiming towards finding out why there is such a performance difference between these configurations, the "jump" taking places between 10.4.5 and 10.4.6. Could this be because I am missing some patch or because I have an extra patch I should not have? 4.- One aclaration: besides these performance and networking issues, all my installations (believe me, tried them all, from 10.4.3 to 10.4.7) work fine. 5.- In case it helps, I'm running on a: Mobo: Intel D102GGC2 with one 1Gb DDR2 module CPU: Intel Dual Core 3.4 Ghz. Video: GeForce 7200 GS Drives: Two IDE and one SATA. The SATA is not detected but I don't mind 6.- Some of the images I've tried: 10.4.3 8F111, patched 10.4.4 Myzar, patched, with 10.4.5 update included 10.4.5 JaS, patched, with 10.4.6 update included 10.4.5 JaS, patched, with 10.4.7 update included Thanks a lot for any ideas that could help Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/29169-performance-issue/ Share on other sites
Andrey
I've got Ethernet using the same chipset. However, I could not make my install stable with the SSE3 patches. I had to settle for SSE2. Try installing that way, and post the results. Vieux Lyon
Hi Already tried using SSE2 instead of SSE3: exactly the same results but slower than SSE3...NIC still not working. Any other suggestions? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/29169-performance-issue/#findComment-200798 Share on other sites
Andrey
The only thing I can think of is to try other install images. Goatscex for instance. Sorry, I'm stumped! Andrey
Actually I think it's Goatsecx -- find it at your local torrent distributorship. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/29169-performance-issue/#findComment-202567 Share on other sites
