Not even after using both arguments and changing the files from the linked post it boots. I think I'll just give up.

nonsense. you have just started. and asus usually is very good in compatibility. i recommend to you open a topic specific for your laptop model and case in particular. will be not difficult to eliminate this kp, but you can have other problems later.
