themos
My situation: I have extracted the tiger files to g: I have extracted the dd files to g: In cmd, i have typed "dd if=tiger-x86-flat.img of=\\?\Device\Harddisk2\Partition1" wich is the volume i´ll be using When finished writing, I try to boot on the new volume but cannot see it in BIOS. What am I doing wrong? I have a P4 3,2 @ 3,5, 1024 MB Kingston RAM, Abit IC7-G.
ruy
How is the size of the flat img? it should be 6G. whether G: is NTFS? if fat32, you probably got it wrong.
themos
The first time I tried this, I used dd and formatted a partition (F: 6,6 GB) using id=af. This made it HSF+, right? Then I copied the img to F: from G: (NTFS) using dd in cmd with the command above. This didn´t work. This time I tried the same thing, but on a unformatted F: (RAW). The img has the right size. I tried to boot with the F: with all of the other drives disconnetcted, but it still doesen´t work. Tnx in advance

This command can be dangerous if you get it wrong but if you get it right it will work. How long did your dd operation take? If less than 15 minutes something is very wrong. Are you doing this from Windoze? Sounds like it. You should check the syntax you used for 'of=' ... One way of getting this to work is to use 'of=\\.\PHYSICALDRIVEx' where x is the system-assiged number of the drive. Normally drive C: will be PHYSICALDRIVE0, the next HD in the system will be PHYSICALDRIVE1 and so on. So you'd probably never want to type PHYSICALDRIVE0. But **CHECK** before issuing the command since if you get it wrong you'll write to the wrong drive and screw things up pretty royally. You can use the WMI Tools from Microsoft to figure out which Physical drive identifier to use - there was a post on this some time back so search on WMI for more details. Good luck! crazy_m
Check if is everything ok with dd command and then try to put skip=63 parameter for dd command.
themos
I tried: dd if=g:tiger-x86-flat.img of=\\.\PhysicalDrive2 writing as we speak..forgot the skip=63, but isn´t that just to speed up the process by skipping some files that I don´t need? It takes more than 15 minutes, and I am doing it in Windows.

Metrogirl
Freakin SWEET!!! Im up and running!! That's great! Glad you got it to work. Now pop along to a Russian site I'm not going to risk posting (but you can Google for it) and get yourself the Maxuss v0.5c patch which will fix the TPM and Rosetta properly in this image. Your machine should support SSE3 so you'll want to make sure you use the SSE3 option. You can check a lot of details about your system using CPU-Z or, even better. PC-Wizard from within Windoze. These handy utilities are free from http://www.cpuid.org/index.php Once you know what you have in your machine go searching for patched kext files for your network card, sound etc. if they're not working. You might not find appropriate drivers for ATI or nVidia cards yet because they're still being worked on but a few searches will find the current best solutions for everything else. One thing that helps us all - if you get something working or find a solution on another site which we haven't discovered yet - make a post. And everyone will do their best to answer your questions if you have any. Good luck!

themos
Man, I love this community! Tnx allot for helping me out! Right now im focusing on getting 1280x1024 res. and iTunes working. My creative soundcard wont work, but my intergrated soundcard is working like a charm. It would also be pretty nice to use some more of my Nvidia 6800gt´s power.. Having some glitches now, and allot of the symbols in text boxes are corrupt.. What´s the Maxuss patch for? Why would I want to make sse3 to sse2? Isn´t sse3 better? Are there any archives with premodded files to fix these problems, or do I have to recode stuff?
EtherealRemnant
If you're using Deadmoo, my experience with it showed that the TPM had not been hacked in that image and therefore, it runs extremely slow until you get the patch. Just follow the instructions on the patch and it won't disable your SSE3 but it WILL hack the TPM. When I got the deadmoo image, I deleted the TPM file before I knew about the patch and while it sped up the system, rosetta wouldn't function and so I ran into somewhat of a dead end. All currently to be found in the alt.binaries.mac. areas of Usenet (so I'm told). Of course you already own licensed PC versions, I'm sure, and you only want to test these apps on the Mac.
