EtherealRemnant
Okay... I'm making a new post since my last one, the topic description got cut off. Basically, I'm having a few issues. My first issue is that I keep having to boot into safemode. It crashes and tells me to restart, even after removing the ATI kexts, whenever I try to run it normally. It was suggested in my last post to run -v and paste the results here. I have no problem with doing this and would gladly do it... However, it seems that there is no log file made? I looked in the logs using the terminal and it doesn't save the kernel traps and such when it fails to boot. Am I missing something? The other problem I'm having is no sound. I read that would be because I have to boot into safe mode. I don't even have the AC97 kext on here and I don't really know where to get it. Since I'm running a Radeon 9800 Pro, I am well aware that there won't be any support for it but it seems to run fine on its own. As far as the random freezes go... The main thing that is always the case is Safari and iChat running. So I turned off ACPI in the BIOS, as well as my SATA, and I'm running using -x platform=X86PC and it hasn't locked back up yet. I also downloaded and installed Firefox and that is what I'm posting on. Hopefully one of these solves the issue. But my biggest thing is getting out of safe mode as I'm sure that the 'regular' mode would prove to be significantly faster. Also of note, I'm running the developer DVD that I patched myself. It installed without a single hitch other than some rather strenuous activities to create the 128GB partition. Partition Magic refused to touch this drive after I DD'd the deadmoo image previously and I thought I had lost my drive short of a low-level format... but I ran Acronis' partition tools and it cleared the drive just fine. So I have 128GB of space for my Mac OS X installation. Last but not least, I'm running the SSE3 emulation hack and of course, the TPM hack. My specs: Athlon 64 2800+ (Clawhammer IIRC) nForce3 250gb-based board (Soltek K8AN2E-GR - onboard ethernet, SATA, RAID, all disabled - onboard sound on auto) 1 gig Geil Value Series PC3200 200GB Maxtor IDE drive (OS X only recognizes 128GB for whatever reason. No biggie) Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum sound (I know it doesn't work... but my onboard should) Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB version Pioneer DVR-108 (Yes, it burns) Optorite CW5201 (No, it does not burn) I just need to figure out how to get the kernel crash posted. Any help? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/2816-a-few-issues-running-native-install-from-dvd-on-amd/ Share on other sites
EtherealRemnant
Okay. Thanks to Judy's post on someone else who had (funny) the same crash I did, I deleted all kexts with CHUD in them (there's two) and I'm now running in 'regular' mode. Now... that still leaves sound. Without the AC97 kext, I'm kinda up a creek. And it seems as though OS X is actually running SLOWER (much longer boot, a little less responsive) in regular mode? Weird. In any case, its running. Its working. I just need my sound and I'm good to go, I think. And I need to figure out how to use Rosetta. Any help? EtherealRemnant
After finding the sound kext online, I'm good to go. Playin in iTunes... with the visualizer running, while chatting on iChat... listening to a CD... and browsin no less. No lag now that I ran the UDMA fix for nForce... In fact, I'm posting some seriously high scores on my HD performance, its nuts. No more switches at boot, nothing. It all works! Change this to a total success! EtherealRemnant
I solved almost all of the other issues and posted a success story... only to run into a few more. My newest problem. For some reason, I have to use -v -f each time I boot or it tells me I have to restart my computer again. Not really a big deal but it makes me curious as to what changed. I can't find an extension that is causing the problem and I can't even boot into safemode without verbose mode either. It has to be either -v -f or -v -x... Doesn't really make any sense. I'm going to tinker a bit more tomorrow night. For now, its bed time.
