When following this guide I've been able to install OSX, get the 10.6.4 update working and boot without ######.

Getting to step 10 worked. I installed update 10.6.5 but after installing, when rebooting, my PC got stuck on booting (Apple logo & circle loading thing).

I added -v to check for any errors:

Didn't think these were harmful

This is where it froze. Does nothing more after this.

I've followed up the guide step by step. Used a burned ###### (latest version), made a bootable 8GB flash drive using TransMac on Windows.

Plugged in:

- HDD to install on

- DVD-RW

- One HD6950 (I had 2 in Xfire)

- USB with Leopard

- Mouse (Logitech G5 - USB)

- Keyboard (Logitech Wave - USB)

- Samsung P2270 Monitor (DVI)

- Ethernet cable

Unplugged all the rest

Specs:

Asus P6X58D-E

Intel i7 960 3.20Ghz

Sapphire HD6950

I hope I explained it well enough & I'd love to hear some suggestions from your side.

Thanks a lot!

In the 3rd picture, see the next to last line "DSMOS has arrived"? That means you are booted but your video is blocking you from reaching the Desktop. The Radeon 6950 is not supported by current versions of Mac OS X but will be supported by Mountain Lion 10.8!

So there is something you can do to get booted to the Desktop, it's just that your video won't be very good. Now Netkas has published some kexts that give you some video advantage in Lion 10.7.2+ http://netkas.org/?p=1004. But for full support, you must wait a couple more months for Mountain Lion.

To get booted now, we are going to move the drivers out of the way and back them up in a folder.

Boot in single user mode -s

This will be a text environment with a command line. Wait for the prompt "root:' and then type:

mount -uw /
cd /System/Library
touch Extensions
cd Extensions
mkdir VidBack
mv ATI* VidBack/

Reboot using -v -f

Safe mode doesn't work either.

I've been able to boot with the DSMOS. Someone on tonymac told me I had to run the ###### every time I updated. I had no idea I had to and it could clarify it all.

I had no idea 6950 wasn't supported though. Will I be able to install 10.8 without any previous MAC installations? From scratch?

If my video card isn't supported, I think I'm not going to try it out any further because I hate working on the low resolution. Then I'll wait for 10.8, I've got the little experience from this so it should be easier afterwards.

Thanks a lot!

Unless something changes, you need a working Mac installation to prepare an installer. It could be a borrowed Mac or a different Mac or an installation on a Hackintosh. Once the installer is prepared, then it can be installed on a clean machine.
