DVD/RW Problems SN 10.6.8

Got a strange issue with my DVD/RW....the system sees it, but when I insert a disk to either burn or an audio cd to play in iTunes, iTunes hangs or if I am using Toast Titanium the disk will not burn..here is what is shown in system profiler without a disk inserted, because if one is system profiler hangs as well:
