edgarinc
My Intel iMac Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo) had a Seagate 160 GB hard drive that was reporting a "surface scan" failure on Techtool Pro included with my Applecare. I replaced the hard drive with a new one and reinstalled Mac OS X. It is a brand new Seagate 160 GB hard drive and it still reports a "surface scan" failure. Any one experience the same problem? Thanks! -Edgar Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/27795-surface-scan-failure-on-imac-cd/ Share on other sites
Caslon
Are you running the scan from a boot cd or the hard drive? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/27795-surface-scan-failure-on-imac-cd/#findComment-189685 Share on other sites

Caslon
You cannot do a surface scan whil the disk is mounted. You need to boot with the install DVD or CD and go to disk utilities. I meant while. Fat fingered the keyboard.
