Infamous
So, because of really STUPID Disk Utility in OSX, which FORMATS all partitions only if you want to create a new one in the empty space, i've lost my data. And even if you check "locked for editing" in your previous partition, Disk utility still formats it for no known reason, and THEN creates the one after it in the empty space. Anyway, my question is, how can I unformat HFS+? I've tried Stellar Phoenix. Deep and quick scan finds nothing. Data Rescue II finds all the data. But they're all corrupt after recovery. Those are "recovery tools". I'd like to have something which just "unformat" the whole thing and put the files back where they were, in the same places (physically) Thank you Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/27701-how-to-unformat-hfs/ Share on other sites

Infamous
Yes, the word have been used since 1980's when DOS came with unformat utility. Since then, there are like millions of unformat tools for various file systems. And I'm asking about HFS... non sequitur
you cant "unformat" a disk.formatting erases EVERYTHING on the drive. you can try some pro file recovery programs, but youre probably screwed. kidgoo
Might give testdisk (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk) a try... I've had luck on an "inaccessible" NTFS partition... kbe
First thing you should try is Disk Warrior of course. Find it on demonoid, burn ISO to CD and boot it. Good luck! Infamous
Thanks I'll try Disk Warrior (no luck with TestDisk - only recovers the partition table, and Data Rescue II gives corrupt files) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/27701-how-to-unformat-hfs/#findComment-191169 Share on other sites
