Eds89 Posted November 29, 2011 Share Posted November 29, 2011 Hey guys, I have done a bit of research and as far as i'm aware, no one has documented an install of lion on an optiplex 745 ultra small form factor, probably as a some of the hardware has zero kext support. I'm just starting this thread to see if anyone has attempted or had any success installing lion on this machine, or anything similar, and getting it working to a good degree. Basically the machine is a 2.4Ghz C2D, 2Gigs of ram, an intel GMA 3000, ADI198 audio and broadcom 5754 ethernet controller. So far, I have managed to get lion installed and running on the internal drive, using a modified IOATAfamily.kext i picked up from another dell install, lspcidrv.kext, nullcpupowermanagement, fakesmc, ev0reboot, elliotforcelegacyrtc (to prevent bios reset), and BCM5722D.kext for the ethernet controller. thats kind of the essentials all working, however, the areas I'm having problems, are audio, video and time machine fixed. As far as I can tell, the GMA 3000 is so different to other GMAs, that there is no support for it what soever, therefore I am stuck with 1280x1024 with no CI/QE. Secondly, I can't find a next that works to pick up the audio at all, and not sure exactly what I should be looking for And finally, I assume due to the network controller, whenever I try to log into the app store, or iCloud, I get the hardware can't be authenticated error message. Sleep doesn't work even with sleep enabler, I think due to the GMA not having a next loaded for it. I am not using a modified SMBios.plist, or a DSDT.aml as I have not had any experience using them, and wouldn't know what to edit to make them of any use. I'm hoping that someone out there has had some experience with this machine, or at least can point me in the right direction, or even confirm my suspicions that there will not likely be any support for this hardware further down the line. Like a Boss Posted December 13, 2011 Share Posted December 13, 2011 I have a Dell Optiplex 745 SFF and i am running Lion. You will need to have video card because the Intel GMA3000 ain't gonna work. I have a ATI HD 5450 full working! I have everything working fine. If you need any kexts, let me know. BuXb Posted January 19, 2012 Share Posted January 19, 2012 what's the solution for the S/L/E Extensions flashing accross the screen in verbose mode -v? -f or -x should induce ignoring the boot cache, NOT -v. Already rebuilt perms & cache w. kext wizard, no change .. [EDIT]: explanation see here. chasmataz Posted July 6, 2012 Share Posted July 6, 2012 i have lion 10.7.1 running on the 755 usff fine. screen resolution sucks but it's working. i'm using a usb wireless adapter for networking. i used the iatkos distro with no dsdt, in fact no extra folder at all, it's just working. there's not a lot you can do that i'm aware of about the screen resolution due to no ability to change the video card. i don't know anything about compiling dsdt or coding anything so idk if it's possible to do anything about the screen resolution. but lion is running on my 755 usff.
