ik_ben_Mark
I want to buy a new mainboard because I cant get OSX (Snow Leo or Lion) working on my current mainboard. The AsRock P5B-DE. But because it is a socket 775 system, I'm a bit doomed for buying a new mainboard (in the Netherlands) because they are hardly sold anymore. So I have to buy a used one. I found two possible mainboards: Asus P5W DH Deluxe Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L I would like to install Lion and if possible 100% working. What is the best way to go? Both boards have their own advantages and disadvantages (not looking at osx86). The main (dis)advantages: Asus: + 4 DDR2 slots (can use all my current memory) - full ATX (not ideal to build this in a G5 case which I already own) Gigabyte: + mATX (see asus) - 2 DDR2 (see asus) This is my current system: - AsRock P5B-DE - Q6600 - Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT - 6GB DDR2 (2x2GB 2x1GB) Here you can find the manufactor information of the mainboards: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Soc.../P5W_DH_Deluxe/ http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-p...spx?pid=3500#ov (dont know which revision it is atm) Asus: - Intel 975X - Intel ICH7R Gigabyte: - Intel G41 - Intel ICH7 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/271870-asus-vs-gigabyte-s775/ Share on other sites

I have the G41M running 100% on Snow Leopard. Everything works including sleep and QE/CI using an Asus 8400GS graphics card. I only have it at 10.6.6 because I've not wanted to mess up sleep on it. Somewhat sadly, my Asus P5W has never been opened! (It's still in the box.) I know I've read on these boards that it works great with Snow Leopard, I've just never tried it. I think if a board works with Snow (using DSDT), it will work with Lion, but don't quote me on that.
