PookyMacMan
The network card is the device that contains your Ethernet, dial-up modem, or any other connection to the Internet or to a local network. Do you still have a Windows installation? The important thing to know is your card model and its device/vendor ID. I'm not sure if it is possible to check this info for non-working devices in OS X, but I do know it is possible from Windows and Linux.

PookyMacMan
Try the package below. It is a fix for many Ethernet controllers. If it doesn't work, let me know and I'll show you how to patch it. Wired_LAN.pkg.zip
terramir
Ehhh would be great except that this is for SL I need this for lion actually for the RealTek Semiconductor RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC although I dun have the first clue as to what the pci vend id is yet, because the laptop is on it's way terramir
PookyMacMan
The package I put up should be compatible with any OS X. Obviously, since you need SL first, try the pkg and then upgrade to Lion. There should not be a compatibility issue.
