AMD X2 Perfomance and SSE

Hi!

Im using 10.4.7 JaS DVD with 10.4.7 AMD Patch (with Semjaza Decrypts).

I also changed the kernel with one, downloaded from "reset not working" topic, cause my kernel just ignored "cpus=1" command...

Now i dont understand if i use SSE3. Rosetta apps are working, but seems too slow. With "cpus=2" im getting stuttering, and "idlehalt=0" don't helps.

This XBench results i get with 1 core (with 2 cores i get -345 xbenches :hysterical:

Results 83.89

What im doing wrong? And what is the decision of my problem?

I also don't undertand what to do to have my both cores working without stuttering...

Thank you!!!

P.S. Can somebody give me a working AMD kernel, with SSE3 support and working "cpus=1"??? Please. I cant open system profiler to see if im using SSE3 cause it gives an error in oveview screen... And i can't use 2 cores without shutters...

Please AMD X2 users! Help me! ;)

Hello Hertz,

I can understand your frustration, because I experienced your problem.

I have an Opteron170 heavily OC-d, and is runnig just fine.

Im using SSE2 kernel because in SSE3 I cannot use both cores, also I am using cpuidle=0.

The problem seems to be in OC. My self I have assyncron OC and I found the STABLE setting for overclock...there is the key...it has to be stable....so try to overclock in that way to reduce the CPU multiplier and increase FSB, also watch for memory ratio. My case: Cpu: 9*310fsb memory @133.

the problem is that i can't use SSE3 even with 1 core :D

hmm... very interesting... i have AMD X2 3800+ and i cannot reboot my system, so i can't install OS X. What should I do to make my system reboot (e.g. after installation of Mac OS X)

My specs:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+

ASUS A8N5X (nForce 4)

1 Gb PC3200

ATI X800 GTO

  • 4 weeks later...
Now I'm using kernel patch and ACPI works fine.. still can't reboot, but can shut down!

Also using "idlehalt=0 cpus=1" in Boot.plist for more reliability.

Do a search for the reboot fix. it involves hacking the actual mach_kernel. Be VERY careful doing this. Also your stuttering on both cores can be fixed by replacing your kernel flags with "cpuidle=0" and reducing your cpu multiplier in the bios from 10 or auto to 9.5 or lower. Watch your memory timings. The thread is at "http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=7405'. It should be on page 7. Works for my 3800+.
