steve1978
hi, i am looking to build a cheap hackintosh. I am starting out in the world of Objective C and i figure that if i want to write apps then i really need to be doing on an OS X platform. I have been offered a mac DV400 for 30 quid but i think that i can probably build something that would run a much newer OS for not much more money. So I would be grateful if you kind people could give me a shopping list of second hand parts so i can build for about £50 quid. I am have an old e2200 chip or something hanging around so that could be the starting point. I have seen gigabyte boards like the p35 ds3l going on ebay for under 10 quid to your door. Ram, well thats also under 10 quid. Basically i am after a system that will run as a mac should, plenty of support and drivers around, no components to give me any trouble. Any help please? Alessandro17
So I would be grateful if you kind people could give me a shopping list of second hand parts so i can build for about £50 quid. £50? I don't know if it has ever been done and whether it is possible at all. Basically i am after a system that will run as a mac should, plenty of support and drivers around, no components to give me any trouble. And what else would you like for £50? Room service? 1 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/271294-looking-to-build-a-cheap-one/#findComment-1766363 Share on other sites
Gringo Vermelho
*lol* I am have an old e2200 chip Not a bad starting point. I have seen gigabyte boards like the p35 ds3l going on ebay for under 10 quid to your door. It looks like that board could work well. The ALC888 sound is good to go but you'll have to check exactly what model on-board ethernet it has. Gigabyte boards usually use Realtek but you'll need a model number too so that you can find out if there is a driver for it. As Alessandro is hinting at, with a budget of 50£ you're pretty much on your own. Your request is a bit arrogant I think. I should not have to write this but If you were really born in 1978 you're hopefully mature enough to understand that nobody is going to sift through bargain bins or ebay UK just for you, that's not why we're here. You'll have to do the groundwork yourself, see what you can get with that kind of money and then check if it's compatible. There's plenty of information available if you know how to use google and the forum search. Any board with Intel P35 to P45+ICH chipset should work well, but you will have to check for compatibility with the on-board sound and ethernet and any additional on-board hardware that's not part of the Intel chipset itself. Provided you already have SATA drives, a PSU and a case for it, your biggest problem on a budget that small will be the video card. Alessandro17
Some ideas from PCMAG, but: 1)A more realistic budget: $200 2)An AMD based PC: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,23921...bid=BE33lJUcpQ5 No Microsoft Windows, no optical drive... And even so it is amazing that you can build a viable computer for $200.
