exomind Posted September 9, 2006 Share Posted September 9, 2006 Hi, please help me to solve my installation problems. I did everything as described in the guide on profit42. I freed 8GB on my primary partition, directly after my windows installation on C:. I set it type 'af' I set it active I started, the Tiger DVD in my DVD Rom Drive Darvin began to boot, couldn't start from HD and so started form DVD. A grey screen appeard with an apple in the middle. In the same second a darker grey box appeard, telling me to restart my computer. (screenshot attached) It doesn't even start the installation process.(The same happens if I don't set the 'af' partition active.) Do you have any idea what to do? It has nothing to do with your installation problem and will make things easier if you do manage to install. When the install DVD asks you to "hit Enter or F8", hit F8 and type -v at the command prompt. Watch the screen for error messages before the restart message appears. exomind Posted September 9, 2006 Author Share Posted September 9, 2006 Hi Rammjet, i did it the way you told me and just attached the 4 screens with the steps of the process. The process stop after the 4th screen and that one remains. The restart message doesn't apperar. Maybe you can find a way to solve the problem ... I only saw "unresolved kernel trap" and "invalid frame pointer" and don't know what to do with this knowledge. But, if it didn't even try to install and i've got the same chipset and processor others have - what else could be the problem? Thanks again, exomind. So, if he can't turn off hyperthreading in BIOS, the next best thing is to tell the OS to ignore the 2nd cpu. I disabled HT in the BIOS (screen 1) (btw. I also disabled OC in the BIOS options) I started from the OS DVD This time I didn't press F8 but it stopped at the menu prompt. I pressed ENTER and saw the grey apple screen and the "Restart..." message again. rebooting ... same until the prompt appeared I entered the -v option and it started printing messages on the screen and next it stopped (screen 2) rebooting ... same until the prompt appeared I entered the "platform=X86PC cpus=1 idlehalt=0 -v" option (screen 3) It started printing some other messages on the screen and next it stopped again (screen 4) So far for now, some other messages but no real step ahead ... exomind Posted September 13, 2006 Author Share Posted September 13, 2006 I used the "Mac.OS.X.Tiger.10.4.6.X86-HOTiSO". On my Sony T2XP it starts fine, the OSX screen appears, the apple menu as well and I can move the mouse pointer. Ok, it hangs up after some minutes with an error - but it starts working on that notebook. So i believe my DVD should be ok...
