jhohisel
So I'm trying to install SL on my old XPS 600, I used myHack to copy 10.6 onto a flash drive and booted off of it. However, when I boot to install it loads all of the kexts then goes to a blank black screen in verbose mode. If I use no boot options it just freezes on an apple logo. I tried booting off my MacBook's hard drive (lion) but it goes into a restart loop since it has a Pentium D processor. Is it not going to the installer because of the Pentium D, or is it because of something else? I've read many people being able to install on a PD processor, but not being able to boot into the OS. Also, I've searched all over for the modded mach_kernel but the links are dead. Thanks in advance. FYI, XPS 600 hardware: nForce 4 Motherboard (or so I am told) 3.40GHz Pentium D 950 2GB Kingston PC2-5300 XFX GeForce 9800GTX 80GB Apple SATA HDD (from an old iMac G5) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/271256-need-help-installing-sl-on-dell-xps-600-pentium-d/ Share on other sites
jhohisel
Was finally able to get it to work, I had to use a patched kernel for the Pentium D. Found one here: http://blog.nawcom.com/?p=791 Now I have a new problem. The installer works great until it's almost done and it pops up with a message "The installer could not start up the computer from the disk". I tried going into startup disk and changing it to my HDD but it says that it fails because startup disk is unable to bless the disk. Also, when I try to boot off it in chameleon it says unable to load kernel 'legacy_kernel' which I would expect since it is only on the install disk and not on the installed copy. But does it need the patched Pentium D kernel to be able to bless the drive? Any thoughts on how to get past this?
