Hi.

I have a 2 TB hard drive connected to a airport extreme. I backed up both my hackintosh and MacBook Pro on it, it created 2 folders within backups.backupdb. The problem is that when I plug it to my airport extreme, it starts a new backup from scratch in a sparsebundle image. Please tell me how to fix that.

Thanks in advance.

This problem has been answered in a Mac Geek Gab podcast:

  1. You should start again by deleting your backup folders.
  2. Now connect the drive to the Airport Extreme and initiate a Time Machine backup to the AE.
  3. As soon as you see that the TM is starting to copy files you tell it to stop.
  4. Now the sparse bundel has been created with an incomplete backup.
  5. Connect the drive to your computer, point your TM backup to it, and start the backup.
  6. TM will now continue to back up to the sparse bundel, and not to a folder.
  7. Once your time TM backup is finished you can reconnect the drive to the AE.

Thanks for your help, but I'd prefer my backups to be in the backup folders. Isn't there a way to do it like that?
