Hello Community,

this is my first post because I always found solutions to my problems in this useful forum.

But this time it seems, that I'm alone in this.

I always get a Kernel Panic when I try to update to Mac OS 10.7.2.

I tried to update from 10.7 and from 10.7.1, both Software-Update and Combo Update, using another Graphic Card (GeForce 8600 GT) and I always get the same problem.

Always during update process when the progress bar arrived 3/4 a kernel panic happens. After that can't boot the system anymore.

Updating from 10.7 to 10.7.1 worked without any problems or modifications.

I'm using the fallowing hardware:

Board: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P

CPU: Intel Q6600 @ 3,0 GHz (overclocked)

RAM: 8 GB

Graphics: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560 Ti

I installed Lion by using the Kakewalk method.

I read so many posts where people updated their Hackintoshs to 10.7.2 by simple clicking the Software-Update.

Am I the only one with such problems?

I Suggest you look at your smbios.plist Kakewalk typically doesn't populate it correctly leading to inconsistencies the "type" of Mac it recognises. Possibly download Chameleon Wizard and use one of it's prepackaged smbios settings

Cheers,

Steve

Here is the solution:

You need to install another OS X System on a SECONDARY VOLUME.

Boot from this SECONDARY VOLUME.

Download 10.7.2 Combo Update from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1459

Open the 10.7.2 Combo Update installer

Choose the PRIMARY VOLUME as destination for the Combo Update

After successful installation of the update go to the fallowing path on the PRIMARY VOLUME (the one you haven't booted from):

/System/Library/Extensions

Find the AppleGraphicsControl.kext

drag it on desktop (of the SECONDARY VOLUME you have booted from)

- right-click - show package contents

Delete ApplePolicyControl.kext in the Plugin folder

drag AppleGraphicsControl.kext back to /System/Library/Extensions of your PRIMARY VOLUME

Repair disc permissions

Now you can boot your primary volume with 10.7.2 installed

I still have the problem that iCloud doesn't work. If you find a solution for that, please let me know.

Hello Community,

Nope!

I also have the same problem with

Gigabyte EP45-UD3L rev 1..0

Nvidia Gforce 8400GS

4gb DDR2 667Mhz

Lion 10.7.1

also installaed with Kakewlk and fix audio

Let's say that the installer does not complete when tha kernel Panic.

Here is the solution:

Boot from this SECONDARY VOLUME.

Download 10.7.2 Combo Update from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1459

I still have the problem that iCloud doesn't work. If you find a solution for that, please let me know.

Firstly, this elongated process you unveiled is simply too contrived and unnecessary as one may simply remove the ApplePolicyControl.kext via the old trick involving the post update removal of the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext to prevent the post reboot KP. Secondly, the ApplePolicyControl.kext is a quick work around rather than a fix to the problem as the actual problem tends to be an improperly generated smbios.plist which is also the root cause of the iCloud/FaceTime/AppStore issues. Simply put, your smbios.plist does not represent your actual hardware which explains why your iCloud doesn't work. ApplePolicyControl.kext is an indicator of incompatible hardware rather than the cause of this problem and resolving such an incompatibility requires actual research. While eliminating the kernel panic, your choice of merely deleting said indicator resolved nothing as the root cause of the problem remains unresolved. One obvious commonality in this thread is the buggy and useless Kakewalk.app which, as previous poster has noted, fails to correctly identify user's hardware triggering a whole slew of issues as the result.

Solution: Use the Chameleon Wizard.app to generate a proper smbios.plist.

Reference thread: Chameleon Wizard, New utility for installing, updating, and downloading Chameleon.

Nope!

I also have the same problem with

Gigabyte EP45-UD3L rev 1..0

Nvidia Gforce 8400GS

4gb DDR2 667Mhz

Lion 10.7.1

also installaed with Kakewlk and fix audio

Let's say that the installer does not complete when tha kernel Panic.

Finally solved I found this solutions: change smbios.plist and runa terminal command form here

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...hp/t270225.html

this is the command in terminal.

1. Download the MacOSX 10.7.2 Client Combo package from Apple's site (the .dmg file of about 820 MB).

2. Launch Terminal and use administrator "sudo -s" command then enter the password for administrator's rights.

3. Use the command between the brakes and hit ENTER:

<while sleep 1; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsControl.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePolicyControl.kext; done>

(Nothing seems to happen, but in background the command is waiting for the kext to appear and to erase it quickly)

4. Launch the updater from the .pkg and follow the instructions, after mounting the .dmg file.

5. DO NOT PRESS THE RESTART BUTTON when the update is finished.

6. Switch to the Terminal window and press simultaneously CTRL+C to exit the routine entered.

7. EXIT the Terminal and press now the RESTART button in the Installer of Update window.

That was all, and my system is running now 10.7.2 in 32bit (Dell6400 with IntelGMA950).

I hope this will help others to SOLVE their Kernel Panic troubles that appear do to the ApplePolicyControl.kext
