Hi All,

Tried to have another go at my Mac OSX project last night, however the image refuses to boot, I have included the debug output and system information below. I have a feeling it may be an incompatibility between the MOBO and the OS.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+

Local APIC version not 0x14 as expected

Panic (CPU 0 Caller 0x001985EE) copy_window_init:cpu>num_cpus

Kernel loadable modules in backtrace

com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform 1.0.3

dependency.com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily1.9

dependency.com.apple.iokit.10ACPIFamily1.2.0

The system spec is:

ASUS M2V Motherboard

1gig DDR2 800mhz

2x 250gig SATA

1x 160gig PATA

LG DVDR

I have tried disabling all legacy USB support, ACPI support from the BIOS with no luck.

Trying to download a useable 10.4.7 image but proving problems as well currently, 3 attempts all with corrupted image once download completed.

When the installation DVD says to "hit Enter or F8", press F8 and type: cpus=1

If the 10.4.7 image is the one in DMG format, that can only be opened in OSX. Look around for the ISO repack.

Hi, trying to get the ISO repack from "*noid.net" at a whopping 3.2k/s , this is from a 10mbit line too! .

I will try the cpus=1 this evening and see what happens.

Given up trying to grab the 10.4.7 repack currently, grabbing from a torrent is too slow (Any other UK user got it ;-)

Booting with -x -v cpus=1 doesnt give the kernel panic now.

System appears to hang with ' Using 2621 buffer headers and 2621 cluster IO buffer headers '

your cdrom drive may not be compatible, mine wasn't and it hung on that. If that is the case you will need to install it using vmware. You could also try cpus=2, that is the only way i got it to boot from the installation.

Have tried a different DVD drive to boot from (Lite-On) and also tried booting from the DVD-R that burned the iso , still hangs in the same place.

Has anyone else got it going on a M2V Mobo? What BIOS version were you running?.

Same problems here. My computer specs:

Athlon64 3500+

Asus M2V (VIA K8T890 + VT8237A chipsets, Marvel SATA RAID disabled)

1GB DDR2 667mhz RAM

GeForce 7600GS PCI-E

Realtek 8139 Ethernet (onboard LAN disabled)

SB Audigy SE (onboard audio disabled)

1x 80gb PATA, 1x 160gb SATA drives

Lite-On DVD-R/W

It seems that this motherboard was a terrible choice. It's a pain in the a*s in Linux (had to manually add some stuff in the kernel source to get SATA working) and in Windows it's terribly slow until I install drivers. Not to mention onboard LAN that didn't work even after installing drivers :poster_oops:

MacOSX_10.4.8DVD AMD SSE3 TEST 1 installs succesfully but there's a kernel panic at first boot, it seems that there's a problem with AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement or something like that ;)

[edit]

I've deleted this kext from Terminal (in OSX install disc) and after some messing with ApplePS2 (buying USB keyboard :superman:) it finally boots, now onto audio and SATA issues... :soldiers:

[second edit]

SATA works after adding correct dev and vendor IDs to AppleVIAATA.kext, ALC660/861 works with Azalia audio but without input or volume setting, we might see some progress with AppleHDA driver though

overall it works quite well :ihw_pop:

I have the same problem with the M2V mobo. Cpu = AMD X2 3800+.

The install and upgrade worked fine to a SATA drive with the same CPU but with the ASUS M2V-TVM mobo.

I switched to the M2V to solve the problems I was having with Vista on the M2V-TVM(basically unusable)(My only PC machine left--all rest Macs)

Now no OS X on this machine.

Guess I will have to be happy with my G4s with OS X for now.

lostagain :fiery:

OK, I finally got my copy of the JaS 10.4.8 AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 and tried an install.

Install disk boots fine with cpus=1 plus -x -v as startup options.

BUT no SATA and I really would prefer to install on my SATA drive...No IDE ports left.

miscz, can you let me know how you patched the VIAATA files to get SATA support.

Thanks

Next update on this wonky MoBo!

I actually think I like it but it has such new stuff on-board that most solutions don't work.

I managed to get a copy of the 10.4.8 AMD Final iso and installed with cpus=1.

Success!!!

Edited the sata section of AppleVIAATA.kext and AppleAHCIPort.kext to include the vendor and device ids for the 8237A controller.

Voila! SATA working fine.

No sound.

No Network(Does anyone know whether you can use a Linux driver on OSX?)

Only 1024x768.

On to the next.

OKAY!

Here is the update.

After much playing around and completely losing Lan connection with the onboard lan controller, I dug around and found an old D-Link NIC, TX538. Installed and it worked for vista. Works fine with Mandriva Linux, so on to the install of the Realtek8139 kext for OS X. Replaced the IONetworking.kext with an older version, installed the 8139.kext in the plugins section. Deleted the caches, fixed permissions and rebooted. Here I am online finally.

Fixed the video with instructions on other parts of the forum.

Now only need to fix the audio!!!!

WHOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

:)
