Zero7
Hi, I mentioned some of this on the Intro topic, but to save time i'll copy paste again here: I'm Zero7, I'm 19. I live in the UK and do Music Production. I registered because I was seriously thinking about converting my current windows 7 64bit pc into a hackintosh since I was going to format it anyway. And I've been meaning to get a mac in the long run, so I thought about trying it. My Build: Windows 7 64bit Ultimate i5-2500k sandybridge @3.3ghz [4 CPUs] ASUS P8P67-LE Motherboard 8GB corsair DDR3 RAM 1333mhz 1GB PNY NVIDIA GTX 460 500W Corsair Power Supply Fractal Design R3 Case in Black 2X 1TB Samsung F3 hard drives Samsung DVD-RW drive Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU cooler Reason: I want to install mac os x because I want to use programs such as Logic Pro 9 and other softwares unavailable on pc. And before you tell me to buy a mac, I will be doing so once my student loan goes thru. Reason why I'm doing this to my current pc, is because I was going to format it as things were a little iffy with my windows 7 and I thought, since I am about to erase everything and have nothing to lose or gain. I may use this small time to install Mac OS X and have some practise before I buy one. Now I need some really helpful people and quick answers, because I'm currently in the procedure to RMA one or both of my Samsung F3's due to them being faulty. So really your looking at a adrenaline pumped, last minute all or nothing man who wants to install mac and go to wonderland... So lol, Looking at my specs in detail, I'll post again Windows 7 64bit Ultimate i5-2500k sandybridge @3.3ghz [4 CPUs] ASUS P8P67-LE Motherboard 8GB corsair DDR3 RAM 1333mhz 1GB PNY NVIDIA GTX 460 500W Corsair Power Supply Fractal Design R3 Case in Black 2X 1TB Samsung F3 hard drives Samsung DVD-RW drive Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU cooler Can anyone advise me if installing a mac osx on this build is possible? And if so please tell me what to do as I have looked up some pages and alot are really out of date and i want to use method which won't waste me time. I'm currently downloading the kalyway 10.5.2 dvd intel amd sse2 sse3 efi v8 After hearing its a self install no fuss way of installing mac osx on windows. Otherwise choosing an out of date OSX to begin with, I gathered, the most important first is to have some kind of mac os on your system and then can update later with other copies. Somebody out there!? Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/267595-about-to-install-mac-osx-on-my-pc/ Share on other sites
Noam AA
i will tell you some basic, but can't go a walk through first, the important things you want to know is, right now, you are trying what's called, a Distro, it's an OSX distribution that's been created by various group, this distribution contained a some patched drivers, and patched kernel, to make it work on most systems. as for you, first, you have sandy bridge, which make thing a bit more challenging for you, but as i see it, if you will have the will to succeed, then you will. first of all, i say go retail, not distro, as for now those distro are very old, and the so called 'vanilla' approach is more likely to succeed. (vanilla means, untouched, unpached, Apple retail version of OSX), go with either 10.7 or 10.6.8 with sandy bridge update. now, the things you might need to know and search for are you will need to search for some 'success' stories about installing OSX on your Mother-Board, if you do find one, then this will make thing a bit easier for you, but if not, no fear, search some more information about installing OSX on various PC's, and do some trails until you find something those are basic, Chameleon - this is the PC version for OSX boot-loader this is first thing first, after, you need what's called, FakeSMC.kext, which emulate SMC driver, and the bare minimum for all hackintoshes the thing you might want to be aware of are correcting your DSDT (or finding a patch for it, or someone whom can help you edit it) DSDT, can help you with a lot of thing regarding stability and getting some drivers loaded, so that OSX will run almost 'natively' other thing is matching a SMBIOS file to make OSX identify your PC as Mac model that match your hardware as close a possible other things for sandy bridge, are projects like speed-stepper, MSRdumper, i don't know much about it since i don't have sandy bridge, but it's something to do with patching the Intel Power Management Driver (or Kext) to make Speed-Step working the most important thing for installing OSX on PC is a LOT of patient, a LOT of reading, and the curiosity to learn and explore and have fun i hope this helped you and wish you a fun journey Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/267595-about-to-install-mac-osx-on-my-pc/#findComment-1746925 Share on other sites
Zero7
Thank you so much for your response. Your advice and wisdom is really helpful. Initially I've decided now since I have a new 2TB hard drive, I would like to setup some kind of dual boot with win7 and Mac on the same drive. I have heard its possible and been done numerous times before. From my motherboard I have heard people use a boot CD to get into the mode of mac and then with a retail version of Mac OSX install it and hope for the best. And also there are the other packages which depending on how complex your system is to mac, will help concerning sound or video. Thanks I have alot to think about Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/267595-about-to-install-mac-osx-on-my-pc/#findComment-1747162 Share on other sites
