Im trying to install osx86 from the Generic DVD installer. I run the installer using verbose (-v) and everything goes fine until it hits the sata on which point it states "Still waiting for root device" even though im trying to install on an IDE Hardrive which i freshly installed to take osx86.

So far i've tried running the DVD in Vmware FreeBSD and it loads supurb, if not a bit slow (which is to be expected).

I've tried using RD=disk0s1 all the way through to 4, just incase!

Obviously i've tried running in safemode too!

I've just read on the incompatible list this...

"Silicon Image (SiI) SATA controllers will not work for boot ("still waiting for root device"). Common chip on add-in SATA & RAID cards and on NForce mobos."

Does anyone know if this would stop you installing it on a PATA (IDE) drive if you disabled SATA at bios level?

What im running is just below :

IC7-MAX3(INTEL I875-ICH5)

intel Pentium (Northwood) 2.80Ghz 800FSB SSE2

1024MB DDR-SDRAM Cosair

Sata Striped for Windows Install

IDE Drive for OSX86 Install.

i have the same question about so-called still waiting for root device.

but after checking internet, i saw a guy said he change his hard drive which is willing to install the mac system to the first boot device and boot his computer from dvd again, problems has gone. i guess the non-os hard drive is the point

i don't have time to test this, do you want to try?

What worked best for me was leave an PATA and an SATA in the system, then use the disk utility to prep the SATA and instal to it. worked and booted fine, but needed the PATA in order to start the dvd.

Also, on the newer (Maxxus) patches some people are needing to change the aoh750 and the aoh750d files.
