DeathChill
DEV_1986VEN_11D4 That's according to Windows which seems to get it wrong. Use a Linux boot CD. EDIT: Or try switching where your speakers are plugged in. I thought I didn't have sound until I moved the speaker cord over one. p3n5t3r
I've got Asus P5GD1 PRO and first the audio worked normally (i could listen to my mp3s without any problems, the sound quality was superb). But then after installing itunes 5 the left channel was distorted and cracked (not continous). I tried to follow some guides on the internet, nothing helped. I reinstalled the whole system, but now even with the build in version of iTunes i have Sound problems on the left channel. In windows everything works perfectly. And it's not only iTunes it's everything. Even when my computer is idle and I'm looking at the desktop I get terrible static on the left channel. And it's not simple noise it's more like a rhythm. I'm clueless, why does it work in windows? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/2667-sound-problem-with-asus-p5gl-mx/#findComment-18243 Share on other sites

120
Ok, I'm going to make a small summary. I have the motherboard Asus P5GL-MX with an AD1986a sound controller... When I install Tiger, the extensions "Azalia" are loaded and there is "HD Audio Output" in System Preferences. When Tiger boots, I can hear a little "tchhh" when the Azalia extension is loading... I don't hear anything if Azalia is not loaded... In Azalia extensions, there are 2 info.plist with different vendor/device ID. In AppleAzaliaAudio.kext, there is: "<string>0x10ec0880 0x10ec0882</string>" In AppleAzaliaController.kext, there is: "<string>0x26688086 0x27d88086</string>" I have different vendor/device ID from AD1986a: First, with Windows: Vendor: 11D4 Device: 1986 With Device Controller in Ubuntu: pci.product_id : 9832 (0x2668) pci.vendor_id : 32902 (0x8086) pci.subsys_product_id: 33167 (0x818f) pci.subsys_vendor_id: 4163 (0x1043) You can see that the first product/vendor ID is already used in AppleAzaliaController.kext... I've try a lot of things with these fu***** numbers !!!!! :-) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/2667-sound-problem-with-asus-p5gl-mx/#findComment-18257 Share on other sites

B612
Hi, everybody. I have the same motherboard and EXACTLY the same problem as everybody else. My system sees HD Audio Output (NO input), but I hear no sound. I wish some of the moderators or maxxuss or someone like them could help us a little, since this situation is a big problem for many people. I am not using my Native MAC Installation because of this stupid problem. You can buy a cheap PCI sound card that works or an external USB box. Thank you for your answer. That's true, but there are two reasons why I don't want to buy another sound card: 1) I already have 2 in my computer (Audigy 2 ZS and the integrated SoundMax of my motherboard) and I don't want to take other resources of my computer; 2) I'm so headstrong that the cost of getting it working is much CHEAPER than the cost of making me surrender. In the end I don't believe that it is hard to make that soundboard work, for such computer experts as the ones you can find in this forum. Any other ideas? B612
Hey guys, maybe I have the solution!!! ...or I should say that Scousi has it: he has written everything in this thread http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?ac...5820&qpid=38947, but I will be shorter and I will quote what he said: [...] Finally, the problem was with audio jumpers on the FP_AUDIO. It seems that ASUS as neglected to add these jumpers on their boards by default that allows the sound to be bridged to the back connectors. To fix my problem I had to put 2 jumpers on the board. You have to establish a connection with 2 jumpers between BLINE_OUT_L and LINE_OUT_L and BLINE_OUT_R and LINE_OUT_R on the FP_AUDIO header.[...] scousi had another ASUS mainboard, but I think that with the Asus P5GL-MX it should be the same, since the maker is ASUS. I don't have 2 spare jumpers to try this solution now, so I'll have to wait at least for tomorrow night before trying. But if any of you guys can make a try earlier, please post a message and let us know whether it works or not! Hope I could help somebody... including myself! See ya! -.-
Olivier provided me with a solution that worked for the same problem. I realize my asus board is completely different, it is a AsusP5LD2/945p/ICH7 w/ Realtek ALC882, but surely it is worth a try. You can make a copy of the existing Azalia kext before you replace it and just put it back using the same procedure if it doesn't work. The link for an Azalia kext to replace the existing Azalia kext is in the 7th post of this short thread with the english instuctions for replacing in the bottom post. click here! B612
Thank you, Hal 9000! I will try tomorrow (I think I have already tried some time ago, but just to make sure I will try again) By the way, today I have tried also the solution of the jumpers, but as scousi said, it didn't work at all. It is so strange, because the system sees the sound card, and it behaves like it was perfectly working. So I think the problem should be physical (i.e. similar to the one suggested by scousi). But WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? The fact is that I don't want to give it up (I'm SO stubborn!) and I would not like to buy another pci sound card, because I would take another slot of my motherboard, for another sound card (as you see, I already have two!). Well, thank you everybody for trying to help. And, Hal 9000, I'll let you know! My theories of what the problem is: 1) It uses the AD1986 codec - not supported 2) Jack sensing is not supported by the driver. 3) The volume controls are not mapped to the soundcard I gave up and bought an external USB sound box (Creative).
