'ello! I'm not really sure what to try next, so I beg assistance. Here's my situation, in a hopefully clear layout.

Hardware:

A Compal HEL80 notebook.

It's got a Core Duo 1.83 Ghz, gig of ram, geforce 7600 go, 100 gig sata hdd.. motherboard is an Intel board, with the 945PM chipset I think.

Install process:

First thing I did was wipe the hdd (wanted to repartition the thing anyways), and then I installed Windows

Partitioning scheme is

1: 50gig~ NTFS housing windows, set bootable.

2: extended

--5: logical - linux swap - 1 gig

--6: logical - ext2 or something. haven't actually installed Linux yet. 15~ gigs

3: fat23 for shared files among operating systems .. 15-20 gigs somewhere.

4: hfs+ - about 11 gigs

I booted off the JaS 10.4.6 dvd, erased partition 4 through the disk utility (it's set as mac os (journaled)), did the installation, selecting patches 10.4.6.Combo Update, SSE3 (also tried SSE2), and Wireless Networking Support. Didn't install languages, Printer Drivers, or X11 options.

Then I booted from a linux live-usb drive, copied the first 512 bytes from the mac partition to a file, then added the entry "c:\chain0="Mac OS X"" to my boot.ini, and stuck the file "chain0" onto c:

Now when I boot, I get the nt bootloader, and can see the choices for windows and os x. If I select os x though, it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor (the white underscore type) in the upper left hand corner, and just sits.

I'm at a loss. What's next?

after monkeying around with things a bunch, I read somewhere that you can boot from the install dvd with "rd=disk0s4", so I tried that, and it loads.

It seems my problem is simply the bootloader... not that I know how to fix it. Input is still welcome :spam:

But if u guys can use this guide please make a a step by step with more info dummy guide or another solution. the thread is already step by step but im not as good as understanding complex computer stuffs.

anyway the thread is here http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=10051

if u ever fix it gimme a pm.:(

boot the install dvd to the installer and go to utilities --> and open terminal

next type in

Bless -mount /Volumes/yourosxpartition/ -setBoot (case sensitive)

where yourosxpartiiton is the name you gave to the partition you installed osx onto
