Mike Koe
So this is an inaugural post for me and in contains highlights and lowlights. I am going to get to my problem, please be patient. I decided to leap into this world after researching quite a bit. Unfortunately I did not initially find this site and was working from another. So my system is built from the following: MB - GA-Z68X-UD5-B3 rev 7 CPU - Sandy Bridge i7-2600K Graphics -Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD6870 1 GB DDR5 Memory - Corsair Vengeance Blu 16 GB PC3-12800 1600Mhz DDR3 I am using an OCZ 60GB Vertex 2 SSD for my primary HDD and a Samsung 1TB Spinpoint for my storage drive. I bought a cool Lian Li case, the Apple Keyboard and Touchpad, a Bluetooth dongle, and Snow Leopard with iWork and i Life. Off to the installation, which I will admit, was an unmitigated disaster. I took a two day break, found this site (thank you for this fantastic resource) and after an evening was up and running with 10.6.8. Everything was working including my dual monitors. So after a three or four day trial run I started setting my computer up. I installed the usual programs including iLife and iWork, plus MS Office, Firefox, some music programs etc. Now I do not shut my primary computer down often, so I did not notice it right away but I finally saw I was getting a kernel panic on shut down. So I tried to fix it with Chameleon. {censored}, I should not have done that. Now I need to boot up in my CD (I use #####, remember I found you all later). My sound is gone, but everything else is working. I tried "Time Machine" and made it worse. While I am a serious PC guy, I am an Apple neophyte. Honestly, I am screwed. I am trying to avoid a complete reinstall, which I know will work but will set me back days. I remember when I started on PCs (long ago trust me, Windows 3.0 anyone?) I would blow everything up when I did not have to. I am sure that is the case now. So would anyone like to try to walk me through some basic troubleshooting steps? I have 10.7 but have been leery of installing it until I master this box, but at this point I am open to anything. Thanks. Mike Koe
Forget about it. I am way too hardheaded and probably should have kept it to myself. Honestly, writing it down and posting it helped me figure it out. Can anyone explain to me why I have to hit the space bar in Chameleon to boot up? I am not running dual boot. Other than that I am good to go. Thanks for reading. nyolc8
Add <key>Quiet Boot</key> <string>Yes</string> to your com.apple.Boot.plist (or if you have a newer chameleon: org.chameleon.Boot.plist) file, and then you don't need to press space at boot. Mike Koe
Thank you so much. I am probably going to re-install the whole system, the "InsanelyMac" way is much more graceful and seems to be a cleaner install. Again I really appreciate the work all of you do here. It appears you have same build as mine, however, I cannot install OS X, using this procedure: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/ibo...ac-os-x-on.html . Do you mind sharing how you managed to install the OS? Thanks. Sure can, bear with me and I will write the steps I followed which were pretty straight forward. I will say I am getting a warning on start up but everything else is working well. I will try to get up something tonight. In the interim I will tell you that I used this thread as my guideline. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=257753 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/265126-ok-now-i-have-messed-up/#findComment-1733844 Share on other sites
